Wonderful. What are they carrying?
I know that Ethiopia is trying to counter Egypt, Wondering what kind of equipment they want to buy from Iran?

Drones and missiles?

The distance between Ethiopia and Egypt is too large for a military confrontation between the two, and thus for Ethiopian arms purchases to be meant to push back Egypt. The two countries are separated by (North) Sudan and Eritrea. North Sudan, let alone the formerly unified state of Sudan (before the southern part seceded with western backing in 2011), is larger than Iran in surface area.

Since last year Ethiopia has been at war with local forces from its own Tigray region to the north of the country. This is what they seem to be acquiring Iranian weapons for.

And from 1998 to 2000, Ethiopia fought a war against Eritrea, which had seceded from it in 1991. But today Eritrea is supporting Addis Abeba against its opponents in Tigray, given that Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy reached a peace agreement with Eritrea.

Yet another great nation in northeast Africa, an old historic one this time, threatened with step by step disintegration, like Sudan before it. Of course the usual imperialist suspects appear to be having a hand in the tragedy.

By the way, current Iranian transfers of weapons to Ethiopia are facilitated if not made possible at all by the US regime's historic defeat at the UN, when Washington attempted in vain to illegally extend the arms embargo which expired on October 20, 2020 in accordance with the JCPOA. So it is now confirmed that Washington's failure did not remain without consequences and was more than just symbolic.

Seems like they need proper tools for their fight against the rebels they are dealing with right now.

Large number of low cost drones to cover this large battlespace they are working in.
ATGMs (bunker buster, and thermobaric etc...) and other ground firepower enhancing equipment would probably be useful for them.
Maybe some GPS guided Fajr-5s if they need to strike static areas or for quick fire support, but it seems like they are dealing with a asymmetric forces so they will need tools for COIN warfare.

No doubt a large number of Mojaher-6 with it's munitions would be the most cost effective method to use.

agreed Fajr-4s and Fajr-5s will add so much pin point fire power to the battlefield,Yemen model can be well executed in Ethiopia too.

Heres an interesting tweet
Perhaps not conclusive, but the pics from ethiopia appear to show that the drones are armed,so its very likely that they`ve already been out hitting targets in tigray.

Indeed we dont even know how long those 2 initially supplied mohajer 6 drones have been in ethiopia for, they could`ve been there for anything ranging from several days to even weeks, essentially just provided as demonstration models for the ethiopian military to see if they met their needs, likely with the understanding that more would be ordered if they did.

well they hadn't had access to manufacturer for couple of years its only logical for them to ask Iran for that much needed upgrade
I imagine that they`ll bring them up to at least mohajer 2n standard or better.
I do rather like the camo "uniform" that the arpias are wearing, very neat.8-)
