What's new

Iranian Navy | News and Discussions

regardless of the type of ships, it's an important development regarding iranian defense doctrine. suddenly IRGC and Army announce that each will have their own AC/LHD combined with what we see of regular beach landings in war games it seems like we want to capture someone island or main land and we want to provide them with support of the LHDs...I assume it has something to do with UAE-Israeli relationships.

when they use a tanker. can they not use the oil tanks, as hanga with one or two elevators to bring helicopter from the hanga to the deck. then the helicopters are save in bad weather conditions. maybe storage room or a workshop for repairs? One oil tank can be used with a big door on the side and a crane to bring smaller ships to water for comando aktions. we will see it. I am happy about these news.

231 meters, such a large ship is difficult to hide while under construction, I am of the opinion that it could be a project built in Iran initially for the merchant navy then adapted for military missions, or having used a second-hand merchant ship and then overhauled and adapted to military needs.
The Chinese also tested the use of adapted merchant ships this month

Some time ago, I had made, just out of personal curiosity, a photoshop of what a merchant ship of the size that could be available to Iran could look like

but if the dimensions (231 meters ) of the new ship are correct, this new one will be much larger

The question isn’t can Iran build something that helicopters or even planes can take off? Of course Iran can! Aircraft carriers are old WWII technology.

The important question is can Iran build a helicopter/aircraft carrier that can SURVIVE? That’s a different question entirely and it’s one reason many nations don’t have them (besides cost).

Converting a merchant ship to aircraft carrier is a VERY dumb idea. For one a merchant ship isn’t designed to be able to withstand even one CM hit let alone a salvo. If you see Iran test videos of a CM hit on a merchant ship you can see the carnage. Aircraft carriers on the other hand due to design are incredibly difficult to sink, almost like a barge.

Any merchant ship conversion to carrier would be extremely weak and easily sinkable. So it wouldn’t be a wise investment by iran. It would just be a “show off“ investment with no real military value in times of conflict.

Yes..things that works/or do the job is enough. most of the people think that way.

Its okay for as long as the stuff is a DIY stuff, but for military its another story...

First, it does not have to perform the duties of a real aircraft carrier and is not an aircraft carrier, but a support ship that is more like an advanced base on the high seas, a helipad capable of supporting helicopters in everything from refueling to maintenance. interior of the hangar built above deck.
On mission, his helicopters can also operate from escort ships that have a flight deck but not a hangar, such as Jamaran, Sahand and in the future the Dena, and then the helicopters, once the daily missions are finished, can return to the mother ship to be fully supported with fuel, maintenance, spare parts and protected from bad weather in the large hangar available.
But this ship guarantor can also support the other ships that make up the mission with food, fuel, etc.
It can serve as a factory ship, hospital ship, and important as a cargo ship as well, and because it will wear the colors of an armed force, it is less prone to inspection by anyone in peacetime.
However, there are many with " VERY dumb idea" who have chosen the path of using this type of commercial ships to create something different in the military

I fully agree with your view. At the end of the day if Iran had a real aircraft or helicopter carrier with an enemy such as US it will be destroyed ..the difference being losing billions versus millions....so converting a tanker with some modifications to a support ship is a great idea...may be not so sexy but does the job long enough until Iran actually construct a real a/c carrier with a possible nuclear propulsion.

well IRGC navy sure had a big surprise for us today

this is first picture of IRGC submarine

@sahureka2 love to hear your input
