Unlike its neighbours Iran isn't a puppet to anyone. Whoever they build relations with would be just for their own security, not at another's risk. Iran and Pakistan have got no reason not to have stable and friendly ties, unless either party decides to get insecure about the other's friendly ties with a foe nationI think Iran has always seen Pakistan as a threat because of Pakistan's close relationship with Saudi Arabia, to protect themselves they stayed in India/Russian camp. But things have changed in last few years, India licking US boot while Pakistan maintaining a balance relationship with Saudi Arabia and Iran has shifted Iran's foreign policy.
At the same time Iran;s forces are all busy and engaged in middle east fighting ISIS and protecting its own interest, they are completely exposed in the back yard. They need stronger , stable , peaceful and Iran friendly Pakistan.
