During a ceremony held the Central province of Isfahan on September 23, General Taqizadeh said that 3 Shahed 278 and one Shahed 285 helicopters were delivered to the IRGC Ground Force.

"These mechanical, hydraulic and electro avionic systems and full body of these helicopters have been built after indigenization by the Iranian experts from 0 to 100," he added.

The composite Shahed-278 is a relatively light helicopter with 682 kg of empty weight. It is a four-seater; intended for dual military/civil use, though designed primarily to meet military requirements. It was designed entirely in Iran, according to the manufacturer, although some sources report use of locally made airframe and dynamic components of the Bell 206 JetRanger. Shahed-278 has a four hours flight endurance and newer models can be equipped with MFD displays. The newer models are 11.82m long, 1.92m wide and 2.98m high. Body weight is increased to 750 kg. Maximum takeoff weight is 1450 kg, and maximum engine power is 420 hp.

Shahed-285 is a light attack/reconnaissance helicopter developed in Iran and base on the Shahed 278.

odd shape for a helicopter perhaps it has stealth

It is a purely purpose built helicopter for IRGC's asymmetrical warfare needs. Low profile, simple to maintain and easy to mass produce yet capable of deliver diverse ammunition from laser guided, TV, to hydras.

Congratulations. The more asymmetrically capable the IRGC, and especially the Quds Force, stays --- the more scared Israel will remain.

This is one of the benefits of not having a for profit private military industrial complex like the US.

every weapon system they produce, its first purpose always has to be maximum profit for the manufacturer. then all military applications come a distant second, 3rd etc..etc...

Eisenhower warned about it this. Not only are American weapons manufacturers developing a lot of overpriced junk these days. but they use their influence on government to constantly advocate for war to make their weapons relevant and keep business going.

no other country has this problem.

It is not like it at all! Military divisions in U.S. Army, Air Force, Navy, etc. put together the required technical and non-technical specifications of what they need. Formal inquiry documents are prepared accordingly, and sent to potential weapon manufacturing companies. These companies carefully evaluate the inquiry documents and prepare and submit their proposals. Special committees review the proposals based on different criteria, and decision making process may take a long time.

not even the most staunch pro-American would put out this propaganda version of how things happen.

im talking about reality. read up more about the military industrial complex. The special relationships between politicians and weapons executives. The cozy jobs many politicians receive in those same companies, or "think tanks" once they leave their office etc.etc…

you could literally write a whole essay about the dirty business. I highly suggest you move past the propaganda version of things and dig deeper into reality. Eisenhower was one of the most decorated generals in American history and a president. he wasn't some idiot when he warned about it.

This is a very misguided perception of reality.

congrats i'd like to see future modifications as time goes on..
