Iran should use Technology from the Karrar project like the ERA, integrated fire control system and crew commander's independant sight to upgrade its older fleet of MBTs.

There is only so far upgrades can go. I think for the most part it would be a waste of money.

@eagle2007 @PeeD could Iran upgrade its T-72Z Safirs to Karrar standard? I ask because they themselves are upgraded T-54/55s, and I don't know how far you can upgrade an upgrade...

Ashura 155mm self-propelled gun

Oct 16, 2017

Commander of the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces has unveiled a new 155mm self-propelled gun called Ashura.

The 155 mm “Ashura” self-propelled gun is a large caliber weapon mounted on a heavy-duty chassis and capable of running a curved and vertical beam to destroy fortifications and fortifications, crowding, light and heavy vehicles, and the elimination of enemy fire.

It is capable of being mobile in operational environments and is capable of immediately abandoning its deployment positions by firing missions.

So is it not the same 155 MM Howitzer that Vahidi unveiled back 2016?

The best gift to everyone would be a column of Karrar tanks.

one turns by hand the other is built so it can be semi automatized in the future with stronger hydraulics and longer cannon the next version will like come with a semi autoloader like the French versions currently in use today!

Like this one? Iran already has

To cover targets within 30km on a high end RAP!
I believe rather than this building a 1.5 stage guided Rocket Artillery using directed antennas for guidance
or building small cheep Turbo Jet powered Semi automatized UAV's & cheep short ranged cruise missiles is a much better and smarter way to go!

Yes but that's not 155mm it's a world of difference

None of those give the capability of artillery, which is constant, precise, heavy firepower.

A standard M107 Shell is about
2ft in length
Weighs ~ 100lb with only 5kg of TNT
And upgraded RAP or base bleed version increase the range from ~15km to 30km!

At the same weight 100lb using composite materials you can build a 5ft long cheep turbojet powered cheep cruise missile with even a larger shape charged warhead guided by a ground operator with a directional antenna, equipped with a single camera or multiple cheap cameras (Building a turbojet engine with a 30 min lifespan is really not that hard or expensive)
Or if you want to build something even cheaper at 100lb you can build a 6ft long pulse jet powered aircraft/missile that uses diesel fuel with compressed Air that can be guided in the same manner

And comparatively with the cost of the Shells and the artillery cannon combined the cost would not be that different for a vehicle equipped with ~20(night time versions) or +30(day time versions) and you can definitely get a range greater than 50km from them

If you want a larger more hi tech version you can get a ground launch Turbojet powered or Pulse Jet powered version of the Saddid with a ground operator within 10km of the target or a UAV on top

Or you can build a 1.5 stage rocket artillery allowing you to cover any target between 10km - 40km for a short range variant and ~40km-80km on a long range variant
The problem with single stage unguided rocket artillery is that due to increased processing power it allows cheep algorithm based SAM to predict the projectiles trajectory and intercept them using a fairly cheep SAM missile by simply placing a cheep SAM missile on that trajectory at exactly the correct time with a fairly low cost missile! Like the Iron Dome the Israeli's have developed!

Gun artillery, rocket artillery, and cruise missiles (!!!) all have their own place, VEVAK.

Please don't try to tell me gun artillery can be replaced by any one of these things.

Gun artillery gets 155 mm shells 25-30 km downrange at a rate of multiple shells per minute, per gun. In some situations base bleed and RAP may be used but these are rare since regular, accessible firepower is the job of artillery, not specialised firepower. That's for western artillery, the Russians like their artillery to hit harder and further, the RAP in the latest Russian SP artillery gives up to 70 km range.

Rocket artillery lays out a massive amount of (very inaccurate) longer ranged firepower, but with a long reload time and is only really used for devastating large troop concentrations or as a shock tactic.

Cruise missiles are for relatively long range precision strikes against HVTs.

They all fill very different roles with different capabilities that complement each other. No numbers required.
