  TEHRAN — The website of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard reported Sunday that a general who fought in Syria and Iraq had allegedly accidentally killed himself while cleaning a gun.Gen. Ghodratollah Mansouri shot himself in the head by accident while cleaning his pistol, according to the Sunday report.The report added that Mansouri was veteran of the 1980s Iran-Iraq war and a “defender of the shrine,” a reference to Iranians who fight against the extremist Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq.Since 2014, Mansouri was a regional commander of the Guard’s ground forces in the northeastern city of Mashhad, some 900 kilometers (nearly 560 miles) east of the capital Tehran.

I think there might be some foul play here maybe but I don't know honestly. Give me your opinions if this was an "accident" or an accident.

I would buy that story for a rookie, not a veteran general.
Some one didn't like him and they got rid of him.

Intelligence services could have eliminated him and made it look like an accident so the family can save face.

He may have been guilty of some severe crimes or factions of the Republic infighting.

While it’s possible someone (foreign power) could assassinate him. It seems unlikely..as taking out a General of a base who was nearing retirement isn’t going to do much damage to the IRGC.

well , I wonder why accident is so strange for you guys when i was conscripted , one of the top commanders were I was get injured by RPG and lost his leg (in that case the RPG was not exploded at his hand he get injured with the RPG tail fire) and if I recall correctly died in the way to hospital.

Yeah its important to check for the back blast from shoulder fired weapons. I think the standard procedure is to check behind you before firing an RPG to insure safety but preventable accidents do happen.

You don’t think it’s strange that a general of a sensitive military site, suddenly dies by “cleaning his gun”. If this were Russia we would say Putin ordered the hit.

Iran has a history of eliminating from within dating back to even Shah era.

Just a few years ago the commander of Iran’s cyber warfare division was found shot in a ditch.
