QUETTA: Iranian border guards fired two dozen rockets into Balochistan province on Monday evening, however, no casualties were reported, an official said.

Spokesman for the Frontier Corps (FC) Khan Wasey told Dawn.com that Iranian border guards fired 24 rockets in Balochistan's Panjgur district.

He said the rockets landed some 2 kilometres away from an FC check post.

"Loud explosions rocked the entire Pak-Iran border area," Wasey said. He stated, however, that the FC personnel’s timely retaliation silenced the Iranian side and that there was no loss of life.

The local administration lodged a protest with the Iranian authorities regarding the latest skirmish.

Iranian border guards have repeatedly fired rockets into Pakistani territory, creating panic among people living in bordering areas with Iran.

Recent attacks by Iranian guards in Pakistani territory and the kidnapping of Iranian guards in February this year have undermined relations between the two neighbours.

Heavily armed smuggler can only be confront with heavy weapons. Smuggling is the issue on both side of border.

this particular region has witnessed smuggling for centuries...issue is that some of the sectarian outfits work hand in glove with these smuggler groups.

there are external elements hell bent on seeing Pak-Iran relations get disturbed - but there are also genuine grievances on both sides and more collaboration needs to take place to ensure these individuals dont disturb the otherwise friendly ties

as for the attack @ Taftan - it was another massacre and the provincial government and center need to get their acts together and provide security to these pilgrims. What was their crime
