Iranian army stages war-game on western border [PIC]

No news on Zulfiqar yet? Is the project still alive? I remember that apparently their was APS tested on it, so perhaps the zulfiqar team is still developing it further which is great but where is it?? If IRGC will get Karrars, then what will the ground forces have?? Is the price tag of Zulfiqar to high for the army to actually produce because we really shouldn't be using M60's right now, the iranian ground forces are totally broke, not to mention the army as a whole.

.
These are M-60s, hardly WW2 era. They do have some use still as lighter COIN tanks, though they should be upgraded.

Iran currently has a tank program called the Karrar which will be the MBT of the army.

Iran has good engineers and scientists.Best of luck.

. .
You can actually buy the M 60 in the M 48 tanks at junkyards to preserve them in your backyard. When they ride around in those white Toyota pick up trucks, it looks like a improved version of Taliban in Afghanistan.

I think it’s obvious that the Stablishment has made a decision not to make any investment in the army ground forces. There is such a vast distinction between the UAVs, the missiles, and the air defense versus the ground forces.

We keep getting random YouTube videos of and NAJA breakthrough weapons productions. Then you’re like oh what a let down another vintage tank repainted.

Those helmets are from the Sha era. They look like a screenshot out of the black-and-white American G.I. World war two movies.

You got to to look back in history of our warfare modern and several hundred years ago. When you look at the details of the battles between the Safavids and the Ottomans, you see that the The Turks were always better equipped.

After 30 Years of peace, we are still playing with vintage, and Infantry formations that remind you of the Russian assault on the Germans on the Eastern front.

We’ve yet to see a single Karrar Tank in action.

Yup, exactly this.

What's even worse is that the Iraqis are better equipped than us. What does that tell you. I've seen our boys in 40 year old camo, helmets, G3 and leather boots in 2017!!!!!!!!

Perhaps Iranians as a whole would value and take more pride in our military and country if we weren't such a joke. The army is run by traitors. They have done NOTHING in the last 30 years. That should be grounds for death by firing squad. No other country would tolerate this. Compare Israeli military budget and our military budget, and then compare our ground forces. Where is our money going? Do our military commanders have formal military education or are they just uneducated monkeys

Haha bro you're in for a shock.

Sabalan M-47 with an upgraded turret. These things were meant to be retired before the revolution...

This is an Iranian M-4 Sherman captured by the Iraqis, and found by the Americans in 2003...

Regardless these are Tanks that should be in storage only to be used in worst case scenario OR upgraded to be fully automated & capable of being remotely controlled!

The fact is after 15 years of U.S. threats & US military build up around Iran they haven't even been able to add 1000 new Iranian built or co-produced Tanks on Iran's western boarder is concerning!

That's only ~$2Billion USD investment in a span of 15 years to buy or build 1000 MBT at cost of $2 Million USD each! Only ~$134 Million USD a year

A responsible government the size of Iran, with the amount of natural resources it has that's charge with protecting the country should have spent at least $150 Million USD a year on MBT & over all at least $400 Million per year on adding various types of ground transport & armored Vehicles to countries armored units & ground forces! Everything from a Safir Jeep to APC & MBT!

I'm getting tired of getting angry. This country is hopeless. Only thing we can make is a fu*king safir jeep. Amazing how our monkey comma.ders think we could've gone up against Americans in 2006-7 etc.. with m-60s. It's corruption my friend , that's why.

What is this obsession with tanks? Iran isnt going to be invaded by land, hence lowest priority is the tank program. No country is going to do a land assault of 500,000-700,000 soldiers to secure Iran.

So it doesn't matter wether Iran has 1000 state of the art tanks right now or 0. Even in Shah's time when Iran had modern tanks they used them as fixed artillery pieces. This isn't country known for its tank tactics.

The karrar is a soon to be relatively obsolete tank anyway. If Iran unveiled it 10-15 years ago then yes it would have been a excellent tank for its time. But the Karrar as the Iranian tank for the next 15-20 years is not state of the art. Hence its a upgrade program at best.

We already know Iran is working on APS, depleted uranium tank shells, and depleted uranium Armour.

So the technology is there to develop a next gen tank. It's just not a priority.

Like I said real focus should be on troop modernization (bullet proof armour, exoskeleton development, communication system development, etc). Along with proper APC and ambush resistant vehicles for border patrol.

You missed our point, we are not just obsessing about tanks. We've all said it, the lack of modernization in general is the issue. The tanks won't even get done, when we can't even do basic crap like equipping our infantry into the 21st century. We have a ww2 style army. Having a row of tanks with exposed infantry in behind them attacking forward in an open space is ancient tactics. Everything on a conventional level with Iran ground forces is wrong and that's due to mostly deficiencies in equipment. The method of fighting war is based on the equipment that we have, so when we have old or non-existent equipment, we'll also fight in the same manner. So no we are not just talking about tanks here, and no forget about all the APS and depleted uranium nonsense when we can't even give body armour for gods sakes. Whats worse is that our border gaurds are riding around in pickup trucks like the taliban, holy god. The most dangerous job in the country, and they have no protection, no MRAPS, and no body Armour. They need immediate access to reconnaissance drones and robust communications for CAS. If we can't even arm the front line men with the equipment then need to get the job done, then theirs no hope. I'm sure the KRG is shaking in their boots from this drill we are doing near their borders. A simple RPG-7 and those tanks are gone.

Imao, this is what people said about Iraq when they had the 4th largest military in 2003...
Butchered in a month. All they need to do is secure Tehran, tabriz and a few other cities, and our oil fields and its over. They'll just ignore the countryside and the mountains exactly like they do with the taliban in Afghansitan. Our leaders do not take our security seriously. They just watch their bank account $$$'s go up

buying western arms are tricky due to there politics .
From Russia you can easily purchase t90s and even Sukohi planes for your defence ?

Lol Iraq had the 4th largest military in 2003? What are you talking about. Saddams military was sanctioned to death and no fly zone was established in his own country. Furthermore UN inspectors invaded his country and located all important sites for military.

Iraqs military was a joke, it fled at the start of war, only loyal core Republican Guard soldiers put up much of a fight.

No offense, you simply judge a military by how pretty it is. You come off as a kid crying why his military doesn't have the shiniest toys.

Saudi Arabia the most well equipped army in the Middle East with the latest fancy toys, can't defeat Yemen houthis not wearing shoes let alone body armour.

The only reason their military campaign has not been a complete disaster is that US and NATO have been providing targeting data and assistance.

I wouldn't worry too much about the army, yes its antiquated and underequipped. However In 2007, Iran's air defense was obsolete and antiquated. Yet in under a decade it has become a robust defense network. Why? Because it became a high priority case for the military. It was determined having a strong air defense was paramount to Iran's national security.

At this point having the fanciest tank or a modern soldier program is not a priority. Though the tools and resources are there SHOULD the time come when it is.

Over 90% of the post war era Tank, APC & IFV they have is from the Rafzanjani & Khatami era!

Today we have MORONS like this talking nonsense on Iran's media so they can pocket more cash!
They talk as if Germany & Japan aren't spending $40 Billion per year on their military! And they talk as if Iran has one of the top military budgets in the region when even the UAE has a greater military budget than Iran!
People like that are the real Traitors!!!!!

What is this obsession with tanks? Iran isnt going to be invaded by land, hence lowest priority is the tank program. No country is going to do a land assault of 500,000-700,000 soldiers to secure Iran.

1st There is NO obsession with TANK'S! The day's of large manned Tank battles are OVER!

Tanks today are used for different purposes & no one is talking about Iran having 10,000 Tanks prepared for an invasion!

1000 Tanks in a span of 15 years with no more than $150 million per year on accusation is not a significant amount for a country larger than France, Germany, UK & Italy combined! And Iran's security challenges isn't all about what the U.S. will or will not do!

In an Invasion Modern Tanks need to be used as front line command and control stations capable of electronic warfare, capable of commanding or relaying command to your infantry + controlling and guiding multiple unmanned vehicles
So the missions for Tanks may have changed but the countries need from upgraded tanks have NOT!

And Troop modernization is BS! If you wanna protect your troop you build a large overwhelming force of unmanned equipment of all types to keep your troops out of harms way! The rest is nonsense! You think an exoskeleton is going to save you from an out dated RPG-7?

.
Regardless these are Tanks that should be in storage only to be used in worst case scenario OR upgraded to be fully automated & capable of being remotely controlled!

And for what?

What is an M-47 going to do for us? Even its 90 mm gun does not justify it's continued use in a modern military. It is obsolete. The only real use the guns on the 90 mm gun on the M-47 and the 105 on the M-60 has is for destroying APCs and IFVs. They can't destroy enemy tanks, not when our enemies have M1 Abrams and such.

If we need those guns to destroy enemy armoured vehicles we can take a different approach which gets rid of all these million types and subtypes of vehicles in our armed forces. We have a huge lack of standardisation because in the Pahlavi era we picked up whatever we could at a cheap price, then when Pahlavi had its oil boom, he started all sorts of weapons from Americans, Europeans, even Soviets sometimes just to improve relations, in a similar manner to Saudi. After the revolution, we had to scrape along with whatever we could pick up on the black market. After the war we bought a bunch of Soviet stuff and captured some Iraqi stuff. Then we tried making our own weapons, except we didn't really get rid of the equipment they were meant to replace.

What do we need for a standardised armour? 1 type of main battle tank, the Karrar. Throw everything else away. APCs? We need new ones anyway. Throw everything else away. Same case with IFVs. Want to destroy enemy light armoured vehicles that can't be killed with an IFV 25 mm (I'm using the Bradley as an example), or when a Karrar 125 is overkill? Simply make an upgunned 30 mm variant of your new IFV which is more useful in other situations.

You're comparing it wrongly, Iraq possessed about 6000 tanks during 1988-1990 NOT 2003, also 4th largest was during 1988-1990, not the crippled 2003 version. Iraq's terrain (flat) makes for a military strategy where tanks are very important, not the same story in Iran. To enter those cities you named you have to pass through mountains to start with, not the greatest scene for a tank-tank battle.

The difference is the US had neighbors which enabled them to build up their massive military force next to Iraq, there were no mountains between the tanks of these 2 sides. US technology is far better and they have an air force that cannot be matched, of course they would obliterate the enemy in the open desert. If you want Iran to face them in the open desert then they're betting on a wrong strategy, they won't survive that either unless they manage to get an air force and tank force that rivals theirs, but that won't happen.
