Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will hold talks in Turkey on Friday, the Turkish foreign ministry announced, in the most significant visit by a foreign official to the country since last month’s failed coup.

Zarif will meet his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu in Ankara and will be received by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at his palace, the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

The visit by a key regional player in the Middle East will please Ankara, which has hit out at the lack of Western leaders coming to Turkey since a rogue military faction tried to oust Erdogan from power on July 15.

The announcement of the visit comes two days after a key encounter between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Erdogan, who met face-to-face for the first time since relations were damaged after Turkey shot down a Russian jet over Syria in November 2015.

Tehran and Moscow are Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s main allies in the over five-year civil war, putting them at loggerheads with Turkey.

While Tehran has given financial and military support to Assad, Turkey has repeatedly said his exit is the only way to find peace in Syria.

The presidency insisted on Wednesday Turkey’s policy on Syria had not changed despite the normalization of relations with Moscow.
But, despite tensions over Syria, Iran and Russia were among the first countries to give their unequivocal support to Erdogan on the night of the coup.

Relations between mainly Sunni Muslim Turkey and Saudi Arabia -- the key Sunni Muslim power in the Middle East and Shiite Iran’s regional foe -- have blossomed in recent months.

However, Ankara has also maintained a careful balance to also keep warm relations with Tehran.

Would be great if we can Link Turkey-Iran-Pakistan through rail network and can create a great economic corridor.

What would be more realistic is a possible cooperation in crushing Kurdish terrorist groups, given the increase in activity lately, and threats by the PKK. But I'm not sure even that will happen.

This will be a warm meeting. Iran was one of the first countries to support Turkey's legitimate government during the coup......Iran expressed it's support way before than our "allies"..... I don't think this fact is going to be ignored by our state.

Our foreign minister plans a visit in late September.

Mr, Massoud Barzani happy days are numbered if not already ended.
But may be Mr, erdogan keep using him since Iraq still under these clowns but even the days of our clowns are exhausted once Mosul liberated some changes in Iraq will take place.

No, in the Government this time Iraqis want to get rid of the Baathist and the Corrupted ones.

Bro, Kerkuk is going no where it is going to stay under the Iraqi sovereignty I meant not Massoud authority.

I thought there was an attempt to clear corrupted officials within the state but Shiite leader Muqtada Al-Sadr opposed the attempt and ultimately prevented it.

Again, as far as i know it's physically in the hands of KRG, Peshmerga stationed in Kerkuk and not letting central government's forces in to the city.

As i said, my knowledge is limited. Feel free to correct me.

Now for the corruption part actually Muqtada Alsadr is the one who protest against corruption but this guy strike fear in the Iraqis heart as he hasty or even over hasty so people not supporting him that much.

Kerkuk yes in the hands of KRG but that's not for so long most of the Iraqis weather shiite or sunnis against that.

I think after liberating Mosul there will be Before and After I think we may see many changes after Mosul operation.

ANKARA, Turkey — The foreign ministers of Turkey and Iran agreed Friday to boost trade relations and pledged greater cooperation on resolving the Syria crisis despite their divergences on the issue.

At a joint news conference, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif expressed his country’s support to Turkey over last month’s failed coup attempt by renegade officers within the military that left more than 270 people dead. Turkey has complained of a lack of solidarity from Western allies who have raised concerns over Turkey’s massive crackdown on alleged supporters of a movement led by U.S.-based Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen. Turkey accuses Gulen of orchestrating the coup.

“I congratulate the Turkish nation for the defiance they showed against the coup-plotters,” Zarif told reporters, in comments translated into Turkish. “They showed the people of the region that they would not allow democracy and their rights to be taken away from them through coups and the use of force.”

Turkey and Iran have held opposing positions on Syria, with Iran backing the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad and Turkey advocating his departure.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said however, that despite differences Turkey and Iran “would strengthen cooperation for a lasting peace in Syria.”

Zarif said the two countries converged on the need “to maintain Syria’s territorial integrity, the need for the Syrian people to designate their own future.”

“We all need to stand against the extremism of (the Islamic State group) and al-Nusra,” he added.

The Iranian minister also welcomed recent moves by Turkey and Russia to patch up ties that were soured by Turkey’s downing of a Russian plane near the border with Syria in November.

“Iran always had good relations with both Turkey and Russia. All of the countries in the region must cooperate to bring peace in Syria and fighting against extremism,” Zarif said.

The ministers said they intend to expand trade between the two neighbors, including through the possible increase of natural gas sales to Turkey and more visits by Iranian tourists.

This will be a warm meeting. Iran was one of the first countries to support Turkey's legitimate government during the coup......Iran expressed it's support way before than our "allies"..... I don't think this fact is going to be ignored by our state.

None of the slept the night of the coup! :-)
