TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Deputy Science, Research and Technology Minister Seyed Javad Sadatinejad boasted the country's astonishing progress in science and technology, and said Iran will stand first in the region in terms of science and technology by 2025.
"Given the efforts made by the Islamic Iran's youths, we will rank first in the region in science and technology before 2025," Sadatinejad said on Sunday.
He reiterated that Iran at present ranks first in the region and ranks 12th in the world in nanotechnology, which shows the country's good status in producing science and technology which is the result of the efforts made by the Iranian scientists and researchers, specially the university students.
Iran has taken wide strides in science and technology, particularly in medical and medicinal fields, in recent years.
In a landmark pharmaceutical progress, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) announced in January that Iranian scientists have managed to synthesize two new types of radiomedicines to treat malignant types of cancer.
"The Iranian scientists and researchers of the AEOI's Nuclear Science and Technology Research Center succeeded in producing two new radiomedicines for the first time to cure malignant cancers," AEOI Spokesman Hamid Khadem Qaemi said at the time.
He named the radiomedicines as Lutetium-177 Phosponate (EDTMP) for bone pain palliation in metastatic prostate cancer and Iodine 131 Chlorotoxin to treat malignant glioma.
Also, Iran in December unveiled five different radiomedicine projects with applications for diagnosis, prevention and treatment of a number of diseases.
In September, Iran announced that it plans to synthesize 20 kinds of radiomedicine inside the country, stressing that its scientists are capable of supplying the 20%-enriched uranium needed for the production of such drugs.
"Iran has gained the necessary preparedness to produce 20 radiomedicines and we will provide the 20% (enriched) fuel needed for the production of these medicines this year," Deputy Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) for Planning, International and Parliamentary Affairs Massoud Akhavan-Fard told FNA in September.
In addition to the Tehran research reactor which has long been used by radioisotope production, Iran also plans to build four other research reactors in the other parts of the country, he added.
Fars News Agency :: Deputy Minister: Iran to Rank 1st in Science, Technology by 2025
Salam,
To our Iranian brothers and sisters (whom I consider as much Muslim as any other anywhere in the world), I gladly congratulate you on your scientific achievements. If such a measure as publications in "Scopus" listed journals is considered, then Iran (Islamic Republic) has now overtaken Turkey (in 2011) to become the highest "producer" of scientific articles in its region and amongst all members of the OIC.
If the Arab world were taken as one block, I would suspect that its publications would be higher and if the artificial borders, visa requirements, multiple different regimes subservient to the West could be dismantled in the Arab world, then the Arab world could easily multiply its scientific publications manifold.
BTW, to verify my claims about Iran having overtaken Turkey in 2011 (as measured by publications in SCOPUS listed journals), you need to have a loginID and password to SCOPUS, or you need to wait half a year or more until SCIGOMAJR update their database.
Once again, best wishes to Iran and congratulations, despite its mistakes and limitations (which all human beings of our time have actually).

Newest ranking: Iran went ahead of Turkey in Science production
According to Prof. Mehrad, President of RICeST and ISC, the rank of Iran was 17 in Scopus citation database in 2010 and went a head of Turkey and reached to the first rank in the Region.
Prof. Mehrad said: A purposeful investment in higher education, has led Irans science production in the new way. By establishing higher education courses and attracting more students in these courses, science production has been highly increased.
The status of 5 first countries in science production in Scopus
Prof. Mehrad states that 4 developed countries of the world were always pioneer in science production. Details of their production in 2010 and 2011 are as following. Accordingly, in recent years, by adding China to these 4 countries, the 5 mentioned countries have had deep impact in scientific publications and research articles as a whole.
