Iran’s Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani has warned against the spread of terrorism in the region, calling for enhanced relations among Iran, India and Russia to counter the ominous phenomenon.

“US forces are leaving Afghanistan while terrorism rages on there and this situation requires a greater effort by Iran, India and Russia,” Larijani said in a meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Larijani said Iran and India share a common stance on combating terrorism, calling on the two countries to strengthen their cooperation in this field.

“Cooperation between Iran and India is very beneficial to both countries and very important for the establishment of regional peace, stability and security,” the Iranian lawmaker stated.

The Indian foreign minister, for his part, expressed his country’s readiness to cooperate with Iran in the fight against measures which promote terroristic mentalities anywhere in the world, particularly in West Asia.

Khurshid said regional powers should expand their cooperation and solidify their unity in order to resolve any problems, adding that Tehran and New Delhi should further improve bilateral relations to establish stability in the region.

He also praised Iran’s “principled and brave” stance on its nuclear energy program in the face of Western allegations and pressures, adding that Tehran has an “absolute right” to develop and use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

Meanwhile, in a separate meeting between the Iranian Majlis speaker and Indian Parliament Speaker Meira Kumar on Wednesday, the two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and key regional and international developments.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Larijani said he had held constructive talks with Indian officials, adding that Tehran and New Delhi enjoy very close views on establishing a developed region and cementing regional stability.

The Indian speaker, for her part, pointed to the commonalities between the two countries on important regional and global issues and said Iran and India are strategic partners in countering terrorism and maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East and South Asia in particular.

The Iranian Majlis speaker had traveled to India as the head of a delegation upon the invitation of Kumar and as a way of repaying her visit to Tehran in November 2011. - See more at: PressTV - Iran, India, Russia must join hands to counter terrorism: Larijani

The old triangle of the cold war era in getting revoked in Afghanistan

That is bad for the our nighbours. They were questioning about alliance.

If you're talking about Pakistan then no , its not bad . Nowdays relationship depends upon bussiness .
Same.........as we Indians get along with Iranians as well as the Israelis at the same time .

Dude..it is not a matter about what Indian wants...rather it is other way around...I still can see that the progress on Chbabar is not significant as it has been projected...

Chahabar has won us two allies one is Iran and the other is Afghanistan. India is gaining strategic space with this port and the risk is worth it

Dear friend...You did not understand my point...although Chabar port is there...But in the changing political scenario, my fear is that Iran may not encourage any benefit to India's interest to protect China's interest in Gwadar....Although it is not visible, but i think this is going to happen...Forget about Afganistan..without any sound logistics, there is no point in talking about trade with Afganistan region...

Well its up to Iranian friends if they can explain more about what they expect in Indo-Iranian partnership.

Does Iran supports India's role in Afghanistan? @Soheil

It's not that we support your role or you support our role, but both of our goals go towards one direction: A stable Afghanistan, without drugs, without religious fundamentalism and extremism, without Taliban and a government supported by majority of Afghans, not an installed one.

No it is not like that, Chinese have Gwadar. No need to think about Chinese, India, Russia and Iran are the ones who are going to come together in future.

The construction cannot be commenced unless US leaves Afghanistan.

India and Iran backed Northern Alliance which is against Taliban during cold war era and after that. When it comes to Afghanistan Iran and India shared the same view in the past and also share the same in present day

The triangle here in Afganistan is India-Russia-Iran

Both the countries share the same view and so the Chahabar port co operation for strategic and stable Afghanistan

What actually both Iran and India gained by supporting a specific group in Afghanistan? a total of 10% land control from Taliban? lets leave that dirty politics of 90s invest on ordinary people in Afghanistan equally just like India is doing today you will get love all over Afghanistan and the government with it's allies assistance could hold it's ground in Afghanistan forever which is in the interest of Afghans, Iranians and Indians! :)

Does India supports Iran's role in Afghanistan?

YES. Iran is a major stakeholder in Afghanistan. India recognises that from a very long time and is still committed to that. Incidentally, even Russia hold the same view. Somehow USA is only now waking up to that realisation; quite late in my view.
But probably, USA knew that earlier; only the messed up Iran-US relationship had clouded that thinking. Iran can have a major role in helping to stabilise Afghanistan. I also believe that if Iran comes forward constructively in that role; it will help to repair Iran-US relationship to a large extent.

My Crystal Ball tells me: that kind of process will start and India can help majorly as a facilitator to make that happen.

Honestly speaking, I donot have much hope on all these Afganistan and all these noise that is being made by our gov relating to trade and all these things....

Due to sanctions and lack of funding, but guess it is working great for India as well as Iran. We need to concern more on rail connectivity of Afg from Chabahar.

Isn't that what we are doing in Afghanistan? How'd you define India's role in building roads, schools and hospitals in Afghanistan?

We'd have supported them with weapons if we wanted a puppet regime in Kabul, which we haven't done yet. And hopefully won't do in the future.

Yes India is determined to help Afghanistan my friend.
