Iran mulls resuming direct US flights
TEHRAN, Sep. 30 (MNA) – Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani has ordered aviation authorities to examine the possibility of restarting direct flights between Iran and the United States for the first time in more than three decades.

The Iranian president has issued an order to study the option of resuming direct flights between the two countries in order to reduce the problems of Iranian nationals residing in the US, a senior presidential aide, Akbar Torkan, said on Monday.

He added that President Rouhani seeks to further facilitate services and affairs of all Iranian nationals residing abroad.

More than one million Iranian nationals live in the United States. Direct flights between Iran and America were halted after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

In the first direct communication between an Iranian a US president since the victory of Iran’s Islamic Revolution in 1979, President Rouhani and his US counterpart, Barack Obama, had a landmark phone conversation on September 27 mainly focusing on Iran’s nuclear energy program.

Rouhani said the White House had contacted Iran's permanent envoy to the UN as he was about to head to the airport to return home from a visit to New York where he attended the 68th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly.

I hope we end this dispute with the US as soon as possible and put our country back on the map. This feud has done nothing but hinder our progress and damage our economy, especially under this new round of sanctions. Hope Rouhani can actually manage to make peace with the US.
