TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami underlined his country’s growing missile power, saying that the government has boosted the budget of defense research and innovation by 256%.

“Although our missile issues have turned into a thorn in the eyes of enemies, we have every day strengthened our missile power,” General Hatami said on Tuesday.
“The Islamic Republic government has in a correct and qualifying move increased the budget of the Defense Research and Innovation Organization by 256%,” he added.
In relevant remarks on Sunday, General Hatami said that the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has agreed to boost the country’s defense power.

“The parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has always strongly supported the Armed Forces in defense fields,” General Hatami said after a meeting with the Iranian MPs in Tehran.
He added that during the meeting, “clear proposals about strengthening the country’s defense power were presented to the legislators and then they were put on vote and were approved with a consensus”.

General Hatami said that the proposals were then sent to the Budget Commission.
Earlier this month, a senior lawmaker said that the parliament would pay special attention to the next year's military and defense budget to reinvigorate the country's strength.
“Trans-regional threats force us to attain a deterrent power and surely, this power requires forces, equipment, and budget,” Vahid Jalalzadeh, a member of Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has not even thought about waging aggression against other countries in the past 42 years, he said, adding that Iran’s defense power is aimed at maintaining peace and security in the region.

“Accordingly, the Parliament will pay special attention to the military and defense budget of the country while studying next year’s budget bill because no problem should arise in this sector,” he said. “The Parliament seeks to expand our country’s military and defense strength.”
The country’s defense technologies and prowess, he added, is unique in the region but this sector’s budget does not have a good condition compared to the defense budget of other regional countries.

What was it previously in terms of US dollars?

In numerical terms, Iran's defense budget is relatively small for the largest landmass in the region with a population of 84 million more closely resembles the Zionist entity's expenditures. In 2019, Iran spent $17.4 billion—or 3.8 percent of its GDP—while Israel spent $19.3 billion—or 5 percent of its GDP—on defense, according to IISS data. However Iran with a much larger strategic mass has far greater capability to project power. It should also be noted that Iran is under total arms embargo since 1979 and has successfully fought off an invasion, various US military incursions and relentless military, political and financial threats. The inept Saudis spend more than 8% or over $60 billion of their dwindling budget on their weapons and a pathetic military that can not even fight its way out of a paper bag as Trump commented.

Yeah. Because the greatest president of all time in the history of Iran and the world that is the source of all wisdom in this darkness with very enlightened and smart fanboys think otherwise. Counting on exporting 2.3 million barrels of oil on the other hand is very achievable and realistic.

First of all comparing Iran’s budget in US dollars is stupid

Iran toman to dollar in 2013 was 3000-4000

In 2020 it is 26000+

So it’s not an accurate representation in a hyper inflationary environment.

Also Iran’s real military budget is hidden as IRGC controls up to 40% of the Iranian economy and can access funding from unofficial sources.

In short: the published military budget is a joke
