Iran has successfully tested nuclear-capable Soumar cruise missile

Good job Iran. Not only does this look like a very capable platform but also it is nice to see people give uncle Sam the finger when he acts up. Although I must say I am a bit cautious that it is empty propaganda, given the behavior of Iranian defense industry. I hope the thing is good and real. Does anyone know about its guidance system?

Soumar can now reach Israel, easily. Given that we have access to Iraqi, Syrian and Golans terrain, and our drones are operating deep inside Israel, we can bomb all of Israeli buildings, radar stations, air bases, naval bases, ports and airports with hundreds of Soumar cruise missiles.

There is no proof the soumar project has reached mass production level and is in active service. Iran has had many chances to test out the missiles in the Syrian civil war (including at ISIS as payback for its terrorist attack in tehran).

Yet the project has been absent from Iranian media since it’s unvieling along with the Ya Ali cruise missile.

This leads me to believe Iran May be having problems with its guidance accuracy of its cruise missiles or possibly not being resistant enough to electronic counter measures.

. .
You "think" too much kid... stop that, and leave the thinking to others more capable.

Video of Iran's sumar being fired at Abu Dabi by Yemenies:

Yeah? So? That missile crashed shortly later in yemen territory even Houthis confirmed it. Hardly a successful launch.

Like I said, the platform could likely still have Issues that need to be worked out.

Iranian missiles are using different instruments for guidance system, for example LPS instead of GPS when it comes to nearby enemies such as Israel. So no need to decode GPS at war times.

Other possibility, is a mixed use of GPS, GLONASS and Chinese Beidou.

Also CDS technology is widely used in Iranian cruise missiles.

We have a long history of producing cruise missiles from different kinds. Anti ship, ground based, etc

Ya Ali is similar to the Russian Kalibr

And finally the Soumar cruise missile, due to its technological requirements, it was unveiled with delay.

in iran its actually quite easy to spot fake projects from real ones.

asking yourself a few questions eliminates the fakes from the real in my opinion.

the biggest tell is the supreme leader. If hes involved its real. He was involved in the bavar project, and its a very serious project that no doubt will get completed ( despite it being a highly technologically demanding, expensive and original non-copy project ). Hes show interest in naval warships. And they are all legit projects.

Yet he never touched the qaher or any other Iranian fighter as far as I can remember. he never went near any of irans tank projects that's usually a good tell (though the karrar might surprisingly break this trend).

is it a IRGC or army project? if army, then there is a high chance of it being fake/underfunded headed for failure while IRGC projects usually make it.

and The most important thing to ask is it a missile? does iran have samples of the missiles to reverse engineer from? would be a project that would be a huge boost in irans national defence?

the answer to all of the above is Yes. so the soumar is a legit project with a very high chance of coming to fruition in my opinion.

this, hoot, and khalije fars missiles are 3 projects I really believe in and cant wait to see the completion of

Nobody is saying the Soumar Is a fake project. Merely that it might have not reached operational use yet by Iran’s armed forces. It certainly has been tested by Iran’s armed forces, but with cruise missiles you need to reach a very high level of success before simply mass producing them.

Lastly, the fact that no Iranian warships have been equipped with soumar cruise missiles should also be an indication that the project is still developing.

I think people here have forgotten the Fotros UAV project. It also reached “mass production”, and videos of testing were released. Yet it has not been seen in active combat or in armed forces use to this day.

Maybe Iran can take something from this

Much better than simply waiting for US Warships to hit a naval mine that can be detected and possibly destroyed

Provide one legitiate source that said it crashed or that the Houthis admitted ig crashed.

. . .

When Russians started firing Cruise Missiles at targets in Syria from the Caspian Sea a few of the 1st batch also crashed in Iran! U.S. cruise missiles are no different they have failures as well!
And unless you know exactly what when wrong it doesn't mean anything!

Although any modern cruise missile needs EMP shielding and GPS should only be used as a backup used for a very limited timespan for launch and in flight course correction for a limited time span.
If your Cruise missiles are GPS based systems then they will be useless against most top 40 militaries in the world!
And with the proliferation of modern directed energy weapons for your cruise missiles to be effective they'll need to be launched high quantities

If I was Iran I would have my cruise missile production capabilities at rates well above 10 per day

Actually still I have no idea why Iran provided it to Houthis (if it did) (a CM capable of carrying nuclear warhead with the range of 2500 kms why?) let alone to analyze whys and wherefores behind its failure,
Anyway what about INS? once Amir said it could be another option next to GNSS? at least whilst having not SAT it could be an available option.
How much one single Somar cost? Could Iran add some stealth features to it? like Storm Shadow?

This picture is supposed to be proof of it crashing?!!
In this case, here is proof unicorns are real:
