Iran's ability to threaten oil supplies from the Persian Gulf is the main deterrence against US attack on Iran.
If not Iran's ability to block oil traffic in the Straight of Hormuz and Persian Gulf in general, there would be a massive air campaign against Iran since George W Bush.

So having a missile that can destroy large oil tankers in the Gulf in the event of war is an asset for Iran and serve as a deterrence against USA and KSA
