Iran continues 'illegal coercion' and detention of ship, India fumes

It really is amusing.

The Vikrant is a 40,000 mt vessel with a ski-jump, laid down in '09, dry dock in '11, and launched in '13.... and commissioned in '18-'20??

We are not talking nuclear-powered supercarrier with 100,000 mt ton displacement here. This should be simple stuff.

This is the first time we are building Aircraft Carrier,we don't have any experience to build such huge ship so its likely to be time consuming.

True. At least India did do it.

It doesn't mean China can't though, just because they haven't yet. I suspect that we will see the Chinese carrier within the next two years, and embarrassingly, it may be commissioned before the Indian one (even though the Indian one has less indigenous components and less capabilities, with it's smaller length and full load displacement).

Fact of the matter is, India has had quite a lot of time with carriers. Indians should be significantly ahead of China in her AC capabilities by now. India started in 1957; China in 2012. The fact that they aren't must be agitating to Indians.

To be honest, our floating casino is just an exprimental and scientific research seacraft, it will be a long long way for China to build our aircraft carrier.

I would have agreed with you, if it wasn't for the fact that Indian equipment, indigenous or not, has been renowned for their pitiful delays in reach operating capability, and generally in meeting any timeline that is set forward by your government or military staff.

BTW, if Indians were not prepared for such an endeavor, then why not produce something of lesser capability and magnitude (not that there really is anything less than a "full-blown" carrier which displaces less than our LHD/LHA's).

You hit on the right point. Indian military always over ambition and unrealistic in their planning. Even in their civilian government too. Remember PM Singh say Mumbai will match Shanghai economically in 2009? Now what?

In fact, they just need to copy every of China economic model and module. But due to pride and face matter, they think they can reinvent the wheel. Look at what happen to their rupee. Their economic model is same fate as their rupee.. Free fall.

It's good you have a sense of humor regarding that Soviet floating casino.

Do you have a source for that? That really is a bizarre way for a head of state to speak.

Over ambitious would be 1,50,000 tonne AC.... or Chinese bravado on surpassing F-22 with J-20

Vikrant is progressing well and will be completed.

Asia Times Online :: South Asia news, business and economy from India and Pakistan

The Shanghai-Mumbai bugle was first sounded by reformist Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who said in October 2004 as a build-up to the state elections: "When we talk of a resurgent Asia, people think of the great changes that have come about in Shanghai. I share this aspiration to transform Mumbai in the next five years in such a manner that people would forget about Shanghai and Mumbai will become a talking point," the prime minister said. "I have a dream that we can do it. I believe we can become number one through modernization, expansion and development and make Mumbai the number one city in our country," he added.

Vikrant is progressing well and will be completed.

IN shall learn how to buy a decent 15000tons LDP before talking about a STOBAR. Of course INS Vikrant will be completed.. 2025 or beyond?

As for J-20. Its within our limit, therfore we built it... But STOBAR is absolutely beyond the limit of IN. They basically need to import all sub system from other countries. Intergrating those things is well beyond their capabilities. Just check out your INS Kolkata, yet to be ready for sea trial and not to mention commissioning. Its way over the time line.

Interestingly enough, we really don't know how many delays and setbacks that China experiences, seeing as how they rarely publish such predictions. I've seen a few predictions from over-excited Chinese officials and scientists on their space program, all to end up not being even close to the real thing.

It remains to be seen how well China has met her deadlines for specific projects.

before asking India, let me ask you about your own country. When is your A/C going to be started and completed? Is China even capable of making a A/C before you question others who are actively making one?

40000 tons is alreay a modest carrier for conventional take off fighter such mig-29k, if you ask them to produce something of lesser capability then India will have to adopt Harrier jet class. I don't think India will take that.

The smallest aircraft carrier of the world, HTMS Chakri Naruebet, one day a plowshare? - YouTube

Putting an empty shell with just 30% complete is not any achievement. It just bragging. We refit the whole CV-16 Liaoning by ourselves from steam boiler engine, AESA radar to arrestor. All domestic. Russian refuses to sell us arrestor hook system. There is no doubt everything is made and done by ourself.

They shall not start with a STOBAR carrier first now. That is the point.

Given our track record of putting out LDP,destroyer and frigate. It will not take long.

That's good question, I think China want to built the entire Carrier by itself include bolts and nuts, we're not interested to build an United Nation spare parts carrier...I expected that it will take time for China to complete our first AC correctly.

Liaoning is a metal junk and more useful as a casino. Even Chinese don't consider it as A/C fit for battle. Its only to be used for training.

Vikrant is a real carrier to be used for active service.

You do not have start and end dates for your own carrier completion? then how can you say it would be on time?

IN always come out with a dateline but never meet it. What is the point?

IN Vik carrier is not even commission yet. Shall it be worst than casino ship?

superpower india should invade iran :taz:

India should use Brahmos to attack Iran. India brag about Brahmos more than any other weapon. Call it the world's best and most advance missile. Its time to backup that talk with action. Iran present the perfect opportunity and it has nuclear reactors that need to be taken out. lets see if India is all talk and no action or it can do something with the Brahmos.

The point its use for bragging in online forum. I won't be surprise that many Indian in here serve in its own military and like to brag about some of its "secret" projects.
