Iran continues 'illegal coercion' and detention of ship, India fumes

Detention of Indian Tanker Non-Political: Iran

Iran today asserted that detention of Indian tanker MT Desh Shanti was "purely a technical and non-political issue" and shipping authorities of two countries were engaged in constructive and positive interaction to resolve it as per international law as soon as possible.

Terming as "distorted" the reports about the incident, Iranian Embassy here in a statement said the detention took place only because of the warning issued by the Marine Emergency Mutual Aid Center (MEMAC) which is affiliated to the Regional Organization for Protection of Maritime Environment (ROPME) in the Persian Gulf and the Oman Sea.

MT Desh Shanti, the tanker belonging to the country's largest ocean liner Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), was detained by Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in Persian Gulf and taken to Bandar Abbas Port while carrying crude from Bashra in Iraq.

"During the last few days some distorted reports about detention of MT Desh Shanti, an Indian oil tanker, in the Persian Gulf waters have been published in a section of Indian media. Therefore, this Embassy considers it necessary to state the following to inform the public opinion," the embassy statement said.

It said, "This is purely a technical and non political issue and the officials of the shipping authorities of the two countries are engaged in constructive and positive interaction to resolve it according to the international law as soon as possible. The diplomatic channels of two countries are also involved in supporting this interaction."

The development has cropped up at a time when India has taken steps to reduce its crude imports from Iran.

The country has cut oil imports from Iran, after sanctions imposed by the US and the EU.

India's crude imports from Iran plunged by more than 26.5 per cent in the 2012-13 financial year (April-March) as US and European sanctions on Tehran combined to make it difficult for Indian refiners to ship Iranian oil.

Why would they let it go if it will leak more and more? Use your brains.
If you send ships which leaks then they will be stopped.
This is by no means a political issue.

I'm confident that this incident will be solved quite quickly.

You are the sane one here, other are cheer leading shamelessly.

This incident needs to be investigated if the accusations are real, then Both the nations should solve the issue diplomatically.

Persians and Hindus are cooperating each other from the times of Alexander and we have a long history of friendship.

India is not respected around the world. Everyone knows India is too timid to do anything.

Atleast we don't lose wars to a country 1/10th of our size, unlike China:omghaha: Remember Vietnam War Vietnam extracting oil in SCS and India helping Vietnam. What can your government do? Just keep crying foul:omghaha:

Vietnam even agreed to cede territory to China in 2000. Now the traditional border pass, Friendship Gate is well within Chinese territory instead of at the border.

that ship won't leak on itself , the problem rise because of the captain of the ship irresponsible behavior and probably lack of adequate supervision from the owners of the ship over the practice of their employee .

Nothing concrete in this thread except unnecessary Indian bashing without any sensible points raised, bashing for the sake of it is not the purpose of the threads made at PDF

Its just a technical matter. People are jumping like Iran 'captured' one of Indian vessel.
