INS Kalvari first of the French Scorpene Class diesel-electric attack submarines developed under licence at the Mazagon Dock Ltd (MDL) in India under Project-75 has begun a rigorous first phase of sea trials.
Kalvari last month completed set of Dry Dock trials successfully after it was first floated out of her building dock earlier this year by Defence minister Manohar Parrikar.
Sources close to idrw.org say that special French team along with trained Indian Navy crew and few MDL engineers are participating in the first phase of trials where Kalvari will perform few basic maneuvers at sea before coming back to the docks.
Kalvari will be carrying out series of Sea Trials which also includes Weapons trials. MDL are targeting June 2016 to complete all Sea Trials so that first submarine will be ready to be handed over to Indian Navy for Induction later in September 2016.
MDL has promised to deliver the Second submarine christened as INS Khanderi within 8 months after Kalvari is inducted into Indian Navy by mid of 2017 and complete delivery of all remain submarine by 2020.
