JAKARTA – In a powerful demonstration of multilateral solidarity to safeguard a free and open Indo-Pacific region, military services from the United States, Indonesia, Japan, Australia, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and France will participate in Super Garuda Shield 2023 at multiple training locations in Indonesia from August 31 to September 13, 2023. Additional observing nations during the exercises will include Brunei, Brazil, Canada, Germany, India, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Republic of Korea, and Timor Leste.
“Super Garuda Shield 2023 builds on last year’s tremendous success,” said General Charles Flynn, commanding general of U.S. Army Pacific. “This joint, multinational training exercise displays our collective commitment and like-minded unity, allowing for a stable, secure, and more peaceful, free and open Indo-Pacific.”

Super Garuda Shield is the largest military exchange each year between the United States and Indonesia, with this year’s iteration expanding upon the number of participating nations. Approximately 2,100 U.S. and 1,900 Indonesian TNI service members from across multiple military branches will enhance interoperability capabilities through training and cultural exchanges. This exercise continues to solidify the U.S.-Indonesia Major Defense Partnership and advances cooperation in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
With professional training and combat exercises taking place in Surabaya and Banyuwangi, Super Garuda Shield 2023 strengthens the U.S.-Indonesian defense partnership through cooperative learning and enhanced trust among the two militaries. Training includes expert academic exchanges and professional development workshops, a command and control simulation, an amphibious exercise, airborne operations, an airfield seizure exercise, and a combined joint field training that culminates with a live fire event.
The command post exercise will focus on mission planning staff tasks in a combined military setting. A field training exercise will involve battalion-strength elements from each nation exercising war-fighting skills to enhance interoperability and combined operational capacity.

Based on the budget for F15 EX is for 1.6 billion USD, waiting for approval from Finmin

There is still another 1 billion USD but still need to reach blue book statust (approved by planning minister)

So possibly the budget will be 2.6 billion USD.

I dont expect Prabowo will win 2024 Presidential election, so I doubt we can go beyond 2.6 billion USD F15 EX order.

If Ganjar - Sandi wins election, I expect KF21 will start becoming the focus since I think Democrat will join Ganjar coalition and AHY become our Defense Minister. For information, it is under Democrat Indonesia joined KFX/ IFX program in 2009 before the program started in 2011.

Nevertheless F15 EX is important with its long range capability and served as heavy fighter along with our 16 SU27/30

Our expected Air Force in 2035

42 Rafale and 48 KF21 as medium fighter and around 16 F15 EX + 16 Su 27/30 as heavy fighters + 10 F16 block 52 ( AM/BM) and 23 F16 Viper ( upgrade from our F16C/D) + 12 Mirage 2000-5.

KF21 is expected to keep being ordered until 100-200 planes if the economy keeps growing at around 5-5.5 percent.

From 2009-2024 period Indonesia will order 50 billion USD defense equipment (based on approved foreign loan for 2009 -2024 period for defense acquisition) with its defense budget less than 1 % of its GDP since 1997. This year our defence budget is at 0.7 % of our GDP while for 2024 it will likely be less than 0.6% of our projected GDP in 2024. Indonesia defense budget in 2024 is 8.8 billion USD.

Most of our defense aquisition is through long term foreign loan and I see that it will likely be quite sustainable as I see we are likely be able to maintain our currency at Rp 14,000 - Rp 15,500 range per USD and economic growth at the rate of 5-5.5% for the next 2 decades. Currently our currency is at Rp 15,200 per USD and economic growth at around 5.1% in first semester of 2023. Furthermore, we keep being discipline with budget deficit less than 3 % of GDP and gov debt to GDP ratio at less than 40% which is pretty healthy number compared to other countries.

Well I don't see the Iran or North Korea going to join a suicide pact with china, They can send materials help but I don't see them joining the war.

In war with China the U.S will use bases in South Korea and Japan while North Korea could as precaution pre-emptively strike as it is always a possibility for it being against them.

Also Iran could focus on Syria to expel illegal thieving Americans.

It is not opinion, it is the result of simulation conducted by US Air Force recently.

The other simulation from CSIS that you mention saying China failed to occupy Taiwan, but US will loss most heavily compared to China and will make US and the high losses will damage the U.S. global position for many years.
