Planned cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea to start a joint project on jet fighter production received strong support from a lawmaker and researcher here but they warned that it will need to undergo feasibility studies. “The joint cooperation is good for Indonesia because it will help us revitalize our defense industry. Initiated during a visit to Indonesia by South Korean President Lee Myung-bak last year, both countries are now gearing up to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the fighter production, which will be called “KFX project”.This team would be tasked with building five prototypes of the aircraft before 2020. After achieving the break even point target of 200 units, the aircraft will be ready for mass production.

Guys this is another option Pakistan may choose cause pakistan has a good friendly relation with both countries and i dont think any sanctions can hit this deal if Pakistan participate in the programe or atleasrt look fwd to buy them....wat do u guys have to say about this.

regards

what kind of Aircraft will this project produce i mean a top class one or a budget one.

The Korea Aerospace Industries KF-X is South Korea's project to develop an indigenous fighter aircraft for the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF). It was first announced by South Korean President Kim Dae-Jung at the graduation ceremony of the Air Force Academy in March 2001. Although the initial operational requirements for the KF-X program as stated by the ADD (Agency for Defence Development) were to develop a single-seat, twin-engine jet with stealth capabilities beyond either the Dassault Rafale or Eurofighter Typhoon, but still less than the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II, the focus of the program has been shifted to producing a F-16 Block 50 class fighter by 2020 with foreign cooperation

According to the Weapon Systems Concept Development and Application Research Center of Konkuk University, the KF-X is intended to be an F-16 Block 50 class fighter which would replace South Korea's aging F-4D/E Phantom II and F-5E/F Tiger II aircraft, with production numbers estimated to be over 250 aircraft. Compared to the F-16 Block 50, the KF-X will have a 50% greater combat radius, 34% longer airframe lifespan, better avionics including a domestically produced AESA radar, an electronic warfare suite, IRST, and datalink capabilities. Operational requirements also specify 50,000 pounds of thrust provided by one or preferably two engines, high-speed interception and supercruise capabilities, basic stealth technology and multirole capabilities.

South Korea currently possesses 63% of the necessary technology to produce the KF-X and is therefore seeking cooperation from Saab,

Boeing and Lockheed Martin to develop the KF-X. The cost of each KF-X aircraft is estimated to be roughly $50 million.[5][6]

South Korea also lacks the funds to develop the aircraft and expects foreign partners to provide 40% of the development funding for a project to produce around 120 jets for South Korea.[7]

In October 2009 a retired general in the South Korean Air Force was arrested for leaking classified documents to Swedish aviation and defence corporation Saab. The general was to have been given a bribe of several hundred thousand dollars for copies of a number of secret documents that he had photographed in the South Korean Defence University. Saab officials denied any involvement

If boeing and lockhead martin are involved in any manner, US has a leverage to restrict both these countries from selling it to Pakistan like what happened with the Gripen saga.
The only viable option for us to wait and pray for the J-xx project to mature up and China willingness to sell it to Pakistan.

I hope Turkey join K-FX Project, this Fighter looks amanzing and Deadly !

50 million$ per copy hmmmmm quit difficult or to be practical almost impossible..................

So it'll be about 50mio for a potential 4+ gen for presumablely about 2020 onwards, with engines at least ( there'll be more parts/ammos) made by the US or Saab? It that the deal?

Come on, the most realistic option for Pakistan is to wait for the JXX single engine variant at about the same period, about the similar price tag I presume, for a 5th gen with everything securely Made-in-China.

Has anybody actually seen the JXX hard evidence.

For all we know this JXX may be stil be drawing concept

And the real machine may take til 2025 to develope..

^^ I have JXX hard evidence in my hard drive. Do you want to see?

A thing that you haven't seen, yet, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

That's why we humans invented a word called "classified".

By 2020, most modern airforces will have 5 gen aircraft.
South Korea are allies with America - Can't they get F-16 or F-35 from America?

Nobody outside the USAF or government knew about F-117 until it was flying over Iraq in desert storm.

Even when J-XX gets finished, I doubt anybody without proper clearance will get to see it.

Those two pictures aren't even the same.

The top one just looks like a Eurofighter with cropped wings/canards and 2 tail fins.

The bottom one looks like a F-35 clone.

^^ ATD-X also looks like F-35 clone.

i think it would hav been better if japan, india, indonesia and south korea would have joined their hands for 5th gen aircraft......................i mean S.korea is going for kfx, japan for Mitsubishi ATD-X and india for AMCA{NGFA}.................i think this joint project would have taken our defence relation with each other to a different level............
