Featured India’s Test of Hypersonic missile and implications for Pakistan

This is just Indian propaganda.There are three main problems with hypersonic missiles.Heat-resistant materials, space reconnaissance system, scramjet.

China’s lead in hypersonic speed is mainly because it leads the United States in heat-resistant materials.Scramjet is a more difficult technology. The Indians skipped all front-end technology and directly used the more difficult scramjet.

We have done this many time. ISRO skipped semi cryogenic engine and developed cryogenic engine directly.

Infact, India has 2 hypersonic program. One is the program of ISRO who has tested hypersonic program a long back. Enemy warships will find it very difficult to counter it even with laser. This is a game changer technology of next generation. It puts India in top list of countries having such Technology.
ISRO tested SCRAMjet powered by hydrogen. DRDO tested SCRAMjet powered by kerosene. It is similar to what NASA and Boeing did. NASA's X43 was foundation of Boeing Waverider,

You do know that SCRAMjet powered air breathing vehicle / missile will not leave the atmosphere, right? Why do you need "space reconnaissance system" then?

Heat-resistant materials
You do know that any nation fielding any kind of re-entry vehicles will have access to heat resistant materials. Infact, re-entry velocity is much higher than all the hypersonic velocity you will ever see.
 
From the past 20 years (or you can say since Kargil), I've witnessed one thing. Pakistan Army is way TOOOO SMART than its opposition (exactly said the same thing by Indian Defense expert Pravin Sawhney). Despite having problems and blackmailing of the United States, Pakistan successfully maintains its armed forces and weapon recruitments. Pakistan always has serious military budget issues, especially when it comes to maintaining a balance of power. However, the Pakistan Army took measures to overcome every single threat developed by India in the past 2 decades. Pakistan has anti-virus to counter all the viruses of India so far. Eventually, they will also come up with something to counter this as well.
 
A few points to ponder.
  1. No technology is safe. Any country with defence manufacturing can produce same or better platform.
  2. Does Pakistan even need it? The flight time of a missile from Pakistan to India should be really short. Only benefit is to dodge air defence.
  3. Is the air defence of rival competent enough to invest in such a platform? I don’t think so.
  4. Investment should be in advancement of drone technology and tactical platforms.
  5. Another area to focus should be project Azm and advance avionics.

Hypersonic weapons are in the atmosphere almost the entire time.Conventional intermediate-range ballistic missiles enter the atmosphere only at the end.Existing anti-missile systems can effectively intercept extraterrestrial targets. I mean, of course, China and the US.

Ballistic missiles are not technically difficult to insulate. They do not need to protect radar, prevent overheating for long periods of time or allow electromagnetic waves to penetrate. Hypersonic missiles need to change orbit, need terminal guidance, need communication. So hypersonic requires a completely different kind of heat-resistant material than a ballistic missile.

The DF17 is just a low-tech hypersonic weapon. If India can't even develop such a weapon, scramjets are just a fantasy.
 
The author is an idiot to think that any international agreement that helps India build a destabilising edge over Pakistan, while preventing Pakistan from gaining parity is going to work.
Sir G, since long I had reading counting countless boasting posts from Indians. In short the posts contains, India got/tested 'blah blah' and Pakistan existence will be ceased/in danger, for example:
  • India became nuclear - So do Pakistan
  • IAF got Phalcon from Israel with narrative that PAF will not be able to take-off from their bases - History seen PAF taking-off and kicked IAF on the face.
  • SU30-MKI, India got total air superiority as every MKI is mini AWACS - that myth also gone down the drain.
Now again Pakistan's existence is under threat due to hypersonic missile test - I believe, definitely our defenders are not sleeping and may have some alternate to counter such threat - time will tell.
I does not mean here to take the enemy lightly, but to analyse their programmes/moves and to work on solution/CM/procurement with better qualitative edge and cost effectiveness.
IMO, on every such occasion in the past - ALLAH SWT blessed Pakistan and we stand successful - Al-hamd-o-lillah.

Well, as long as Indian Army can produce 71 type results, I think India will be satisfied too. Makes both of us happy, right? You keep Feb 27, we will keep 71.

India has nothing to cheer at with regards to 1971. The Pakistani Army in East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, was completely surrounded and isolated by India (not to mention in a very hostile territory of its own). Their predicament was even worse than that of the Wehrmacht 6th Army in Stalingrad after Soviet encirclement. The performance in the Western front is more indicative of how a conflict between Pakistan and India would go and it did go so well for India, which is why very rarely is the Western front mentioned in 1971.

In other words, 1971 is just a bigger version of your attack on Portuguese Goa.

Yes, and no. Existing anti-missile systems cann't handle fractional orbital bombardment type of threats. Heck, even MIRV are very very very hard to defend against. When it comes to strategic ballistic missiles, even now, there is no effective defence. Ask Pakistanis, why they went for MIRV. All these technologies are from 60s and still there is not much even the most advanced nations US, Russia and China can do against them.

DF17 (HGV) and SCRAMjet based cruise missiles are two very different weapons meant to fulfill two very different roles. SCRAMjet based cruise missiles are thought as a very very effective anti ship missiles for ALL kinds of ships. India needs it to protect against PLAN.

India does not have any HGV program because India does not need it. HGV for a "prompt global strike" kind of role simply does not fit into India's threat model. Basically, India does not have distant or global enemies like US does. All its enemies are next door. Hence no HGV was pursued.

So, India has been working on a hypersonic cruise missile since quite sometime now. From 2008 - 10 AFAIK. I believe it has received help from Russia too.

Now as far as heat resistant material tech specifically goes, a 1000 KM range Hypersonic Cruise flying at 2 KM / sec (6.0 mach no) will fly for 500 seconds. At higher machs say mach 9 (3 KM/sec), it will be 333.0 seconds. Thats less than 9 minutes at Mach 6 or 6 minutes at mach 9. The re-entry time of a typical space shuttle travelling at 7-8 km /sec ( 21 - 24 mach no) slowing down to 1 mach is 10 minutes or more. "Heat resistant material" tech is pretty old and well understood and documented.

Pakistan ruled East Pakistan for more than 25 years. If that was not enough to build enough defences then sorry dear, all you said is just that : excuses.

BTW, even in west Pakistan, Pakistan lost half its navy in 71. Karachi port suffered massive damages by Indian missile boat attack. The much hailed PAF could not even maintain air supremacy in its OWN air space and had to run for cover in foreign airbases. So much for west Pakistan. Anyways, this will be my final post on 1971, the topic is not that.
