India's P-8I Neptune seen bristling with Harpoon missiles

Buying 30 P-8I Poseidon's is a must, Considering the length of our coast line and security threats we face, Further this is a gold time for us to get Hi-Tech US arms, I also want our Navy to improve their aviation wing as soon as possible.

This may be the deadliest 737 shot ever taken! Okay, so they are captive
training rounds representing the ship sinking AGM-84D Harpoon air to surface
missile, none the less, the 737 is now one bad missile chuckin’ war wagon!
Remember, it’s all about long range platforms, and the P-8 may be a maritime
patrol aircraft, but it will be able to do many other roles as well, including
hauling standoff missiles to the edge of enemy air defenses.

I was also going to ask the same question ........

Looks like CGI .........If not good for us ...........

Their is a difference Pakistani Harpoons have 180 km range , and are of early 1990s spec

Indian Harpoons will have 315 km range and will be of 2010 Spec

315 km?Shouldn't MTCR prevent export of missile with range greater than 300km?

30 is a far fetched figure..WHy?
1. We have limited resources
2. Each one of them costs a bomb.
3. There are built for long range . We will maintain a mix of lesser Long range with far more Medium range recce aircraft. This ensures optimum use of best suited aircraft for a situation..so as to avoid an overkill.

Ok, this is what I think how the estimations might have worked

We presently have 6 Naval Air Bases including the new one INS Baaz. They are

The present fleet of LRMR Tu-142(8) and Il-38(5) aircraft are based in the following Stations
NAS Hansa - Dabolim, Goa
NAS Rajali - Arakkonam, Tamil Nadu

Since the Russian aircraft had a greater range 2 or 3 were sufficient to carry out 24/7 operations in any scenario over a particular area

The P-8I aircraft which can sustain 4 hours on station operations, so it means for a 24/7 surveillance considering 4 hours baseline a triple of the present 13 seems to fit in Indian needs..

My wild guess only .. So correct me if I am wrong and spare me any criticism :P

A humble but wild idea: Induct P-8Is and relieve TUs . Transform Bears into missile carrier. Even if one plane is able to carry 4 Nirbhay or, Brahmos , it will throw a huge punch. Just imagine 15 Super MKI escorting 3 of these....

Converting existing bears will be a bad idea IMO,as they are getting old. May be we can get some new platforms to build a missile carrier, which will be awesome
