India's first manned space mission "Gaganyaan," planned for 2022, will take place on schedule and won't be affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Minister for Atomic Energy and Space Jitendra Singh said.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Space on Monday evening, the minister said though the training of four Indian astronauts in Russia had to be halted because of the COVID-19 pandemic, there had been kept a "cushion" both in the training program and the launch deadline.

The training of astronauts has been resumed, and the launch is scheduled to take place as planned before the 75th anniversary of India's independence in August 2022, he said.

Elaborating on the cabinet decision to encourage private participation in the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) activities, Singh said that a regulatory body called "Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe)" is to be established.

This new authority would help provide a level playing field to private players and encourage their participation, he added.

With regard to the lunar mission "Chandrayaan-3," the minister said it is planned for launch next year. This mission will involve a lander, rover and a propulsion system to carry the modules to move but it would not have orbiter as the previous orbiter is fully operational, he added.

Well Good Luck I suppose. Scientific advancement in civilian sphere no one will argue with...

But I will still say priorities are all effed up.

In the Indian scheme of things, this is an election vote booster.

As in - we put the first Indian in space with an Indian "rucket".

There was an Indian in space twenty some odd years ago. What's new now?

What benefit will it provide the lota-bearing man headed for his morning 'ahem' routine?

There are countries with ten times the per capita GDP that don't see this as a priority.

Like South Korea, Taiwan, Sweden, Denmark.

And Australia too. The first 'alley' of India in the fight against China in the 'Himmer-Layers'.

It should be. Regardless of American controlled media propaganda bias downplaying Indias situation and directing negative press away from India towards adversaries, Indias economy has been hit hard and is tumbling towards a total collapse. People are starving on the streets and hundred millions unemployed and the corrupt Indian regime is trying to play space power.

Bhai, to be honest, ISRO has achieved far less than even the far less funded and far less resourced private organization SpaceX. Compare ISRO's 58 years of existence and SpaceX's 18 years.

And that artist's impression of Gaganyaan shows a smaller craft compared to the SpaceX Crew Dragon which can carry seven.

Also, another private American organization, Bigelow Aerospace has been testing inflatable space habitats which ISRO is not even attempting.

Their space program should shame us.
We have everything we need. The rockets, the capsules and yet we do sweet **** all.
A Ghauri with an upper stage and shaheen strap-on boosters or a Shaheen III derivative could easily send multi-person capsules into space.
And it won't be expensive, the hardware is already there, hell for the rockets it would be a good way to dispose of a missile nearing the end of its service life.
