unforttuneatly for india pakistan is not small sate that it can easily bully..we have population of 200 million..and have a strong militery..if their is a war..we can hold our ground..

people usually think of 71 but forget the odds..the reason we failed in 71 was not only being outnumbered heavily (1 million troops to 60,000 troops; 30,000 civilian workers) but laso the complete lack of public support

the bangladeshi fighters alone could have easily toppled the 60,000 troops without the indian support.. india just walked in to get itself glory..otherwise a few years back in 1965 the picture was completly different.

one last thing is people talk of techn ..india was been way ahead and will be ahead in techn in past and present ..
in 1971 india were operating a generation ahead of fighter airplanes then we were..same goes for their navy or landforces
today the techn gap has relativly closed in.

Let me put a scenario before you, French Abba did not deliver any fighter jets yet , so you can probably rework these analysis again with fighters that you actually have.

Here is what I think that will happen Pakistan will free Kashmir , as local population will rise up

And then we will separate Southern India Province while China takes Assam and Tibet

India will send Envoy to UN , and then we will seize fire and Pakistan will return Southern Province back provided they give up Kashmir (The End)

First Week of fighting the Kill ratio will be 5:1 for Pakistani Air-force due to Superior planning

Meanwhile Indian army hiding in Kargil caves will face the Precision Guided Bombs that we have to smoke out the rats

China will push in from Assam , and Northern Kashmir

And Pakistan will chop off the supply line -

30-40% of Indian force would be shot down due to `HIGH QUALITY`defensive weapons

Only place where Indian Airforce will dare to fly would be away from borders with Pakistan and towards Bangladesh to seek refuge

The Nasr is supposed to 'destroy' Indian combat groups well INSIDE Pakistan territory!! Not a good idea nuking ones own territory, right? They'll destroy in the process their own towns and villages and the radioactive dust in Pakistan will spell doom for the next 50 years at least with death and nuclear radiation that would not allow even a blade of grass to grow and whatever grows will be radiated to such an extent that crops would be inedible!

Staged? Cross border snatch raids by BATs is common. Both sides do it and get a few heads of the other side in the deal. So what? You look at the situation through a narrow view point - that no action was forthcoming by India. But wonder why India raised this issue which is so common till date (right from 1948)? And why Indian army threatened a massive retaliation across LC and why inspite of intial bravado by Pakistani Govt the thing was diffused? Simple because of the disconnect between GoP and PA. PA always increases border incidents when they are being 'sidelined' in this case due to progress being made on peace by both GoP and GoI both of which were keen on peace process continuing inspite of everything. The result of Indian 'belligerence' was immense pressure on GoP and PA to keep on peace track and not divert. This allowed GoP which am sure wants peace as also the people of Pakistan to reassert itself and have the upper hand once again in the Pakistani public perception as the right institution. PA always wants to assert itself in order to emerge as the defenders of Pakistan and gain public sympathy by 'fighting' Indian aggression. Your internal politics are for you to see.
Just because India threatened retaliation you moved PA to forward locales to take over defences from rangers in the concerned sectors and deployed your artillery brigades in the areas too. You were cautious (you can verify movements they were in Jan third week from your own army) and you were willing to talk peace and move forward. You also lost man yesterday and earlier too so retaliation is there but you realise that we mean business and that is what cold start is all about. India has enough troops and stocks in valley to start offensive actions in present posture in valley. You know it. Your armed forces are combating internal strife you cant afford to fight us. Your government knows it. And contrary to popular belief that Indian attack will unite all your splinter groups you will not get any support from TTP et al as they have now fought PA and allied forces in NWFP and FATA and its Pathan/tribal history that they will fight ferociously if they sense weakness. And the weakness of PA in dealing with their terror tactics are an impetus. So my dear sir. Grow up. Cold start works exactly as planned. We dont have to fight at all and that is the basis of a very sound strategy.
