Indians look into Russia’s fifth-generation jet fighter

you never know, but yes I can see the spin offs like Shaurya and Nirbhay, with Shauyrya being a hypersonic quasi ballistic missile. So you might see Shaurya in action and complementing Brahmos.

Dash --

Any idea about the seeker on Shaurya/Nirbhay ? Is it Indigenious or Russie ?

I have no idea to be honest as the technical details for these two systems are not much revealed.

But DRDO has tied up with Israel Raphale for building homing devices and seekers.Mostly I think this partenship was aimed at developing advanced seekers for missiles.

However in case of Shaurya and Nirbbhay, they will be guided by INS/GPS or glonass, actually the way it works is the target map is orginally fed to the computer and then SAR mapping alogorithm matches the target to teh pre-fed area. once the mapping is done then INS will steer the missile to the target.

But for now I cant say if its Russian, but looks like we have our own indegeneous stuff.

Agreed. But have you seen how the canards are attached to the fuselage? Pardon my choice of words (I am not an engineer), the pivot or the hinge for canards is always in the middle of the movable surface.

Can you post the source? I too remember reading it somewhere, but logically speaking a bay in that area doesnt make sense. Again, I could be very wrong.

Hey, found this post by Khathi when I was going through mp.net.
Don't start that again, man, three different insiders confirmed that that's the missile bays for RVV-MD. flateric and nemetc on Sukhoi forums (IIRC, nemetc even was here coupla times), and gr00mi in LJ. The part about wheels is especially hilarious -- how'd you gonna squeeze the wheel into this long and seriously narrow compartment is anyone's guess. The shorter thing -- yes, that's the flap actuator fairing, but the long one IS a missile bay. They are non-opening on a T-50-1 because missile isn't ready yet, and anyway, it's not geared for weapons testing, but they will be on T-50-2. And if you wander how they would open, then it's very simple -- the cover is hinged on the inner side and opens as a whole.

Like I said.. it is indeed designed to work as a wvraam missile bay.

PICTURES: Indian officials get up close to new-look PAK FA fighter

Russia has conducted a flight demonstration with its prototype PAK FA fighter for a delegation of Indian defence ministry and industry officials.

Held at Ramenskoye aerodrome near Moscow on 31 August, the 10min display was made in support of talks over the bilateral development by Moscow and New Delhi of a new fifth-generation fighter.

Indian officials inspected Sukhoi's lone PAK FA following the demonstration, which included low-speed passes and high angle-of-attack manoeuvres. The aircraft, which will be followed by two more prototypes before the end of the year, is pictured with new-look camouflage markings.

The new fighter programme is a topic of discussion by an Indo-Russian commission for military industrial co-operation, along with another to produce a multi-role transport aircraft with a 20t payload capacity.

New Delhi is insisting on executing both programmes as joint ventures, with equal sharing of investment and workshare.

Russia's air force has a requirement for 250-300 next-generation T-50 fighters to enter use from 2015-16, while India plans to buy between 200 and 250 of the joint design. This should use a common airframe and engines, but have its on-board systems and weapons tailored for their individual needs.

First flown in January, the PAK FA prototype is intended to de-risk features such as the use of low-observable materials and thrust-vectoring engines with supercruise performance, plus internally carried weapons.

Russian sources suggest a pre-production batch of between six and 10 aircraft will be built to support future testing of the type, with the nation's air force expected to launch operational trials in Lipetsk around 2012-13.
