India suffers from a lot of poverty, which means that many people there do not have enough money. In 2012, Acco. to latest report by the Planning Commission of India(Tendulkar Committee) reported that 21.9% of all people in India fall below the international poverty line of US$ 1.25 per day.Over the last decade, poverty has witnessed a consistent decline with the levels dropping from 37.2% in 2004-05 to 29.8% in 2009-10. The number of poor is now estimated at 250 million, of which 200 million reside in rural India.

How much do you think is the poverty level in your nation?

Dont be stupid.

Money is not the real issue in India. India pumps billions of UDSs into anti poverty measures... billions of USD into infrastructure projects (more than your nation can ever imagine of)..... several million tons of food rot each year. Yet too much of the money goes into pockets of politicians and other criminals.

But despite this rampant corruption, red tape and socialist policies India became one of the largest economies in the world... we managed to reduce poverty considerably and managed to stay as one nation without falling into a dictatorship.... unlike the most of the countries around us.

And the point still stands: India spends less on its military than others in the region (Less than 2% of our GDP!)

Now answer with arguments or keep crying and writing BS.

Is this a thread where one can post any nonsense about India, spell all negative and say "India is dump, why buy weapons ??". Well if that's so then we can say "Our poorer neighbor who ate (and still eating) grass to build nukes, arms them to uneducated (Dinn have money in the first place for edu. Routed all edu money to nuke), mind washed hate infused youth. We need protection from them."

Okey, tell me what is this… after poverty alleviation, i thought its poverty up-rising projects.

>1/3rd of the worldÂ’s hungry live in India.
>836 million Indians survive on less than Rs. 20 (less than half-a-dollar) a day.
>Over 20 crore Indians will sleep hungry tonight.
>10 million people die every year of chronic hunger and hunger-related diseases. Only eight percent are the victims of hunger caused by high-profile earthquakes, floods, droughts and wars.
>India has 212 million undernourished people – only marginally below the 215 million estimated ..
>99% of the 1000 Adivasi households from 40 villages in the two states, who comprised the total sample, experienced chronic hunger (unable to get two square meals, or at least one square meal and one poor/partial meal, on even one day in the week prior to the survey). Almost as many (24.1 per cent) had lived in conditions of semi-starvation during the previous month.
>Over 7000 Indians die of hunger every day.
>Over 25 lakh Indians die of hunger every year.
