Indian Rivers Inter-link

In 1972 the then Minister for Irrigation K. L. Rao proposed a 2640 kilometer long link between the Ganges and Kaveri rivers. In 1974 plans were proposed for the 'Garland canal'. In 1982 the National Water Development Agency was set up to carry out surveys of the links and prepare feasibility studies.

I wasnt born at that time mate. I know about this project during NDA tenure.

Kerala state will oppose Pamba-Achankovil-Vaippar link ,first thing there is no surplus water in the west flowing rivers of Kerala and any diversion of water will affect the socio-cultural, ecological and environmental aspects of the State

None of the maps show the rivers of Kashmir being interconnected to rest of the river grid.. I wonder why this has been left out..

Just being Good Boys & keeping the Given Words....

I'm all for this project, however thanks to the traitors ruling india and their populism for winning elections, we may not have enough money to meet the desperate need of infra investment for years and years to come :(

And makkar shinde if you are reading this, up yours!

If we had commenced work on the project in the 70s it would have cost a mere $14 billion. Now it's about $140 billion!

We Indians lack foresight and planning! Period!

Water is very sensitive topic and extreme care should be taken while taking any plan to building dams let alone diverting a whole river. Even if you just ignore the affect it will have existing Eco-system, lower riparian states will be adversely affected from diverting water from upstream. I'm sure West Bengal will oppose any such plan of connecting Ganges to South India rivers.

In 70's spending 14 billion USD (22% of GDP) was tougher than spending $140 billion today(8% of GDP )...
