Perhaps due to colonisation people are uncomfortable with their skin colour, media is also to blame. Have you ever watched Bollywood movies? Most of their hero or heroes are usually light skinned.

well even among South Indians, this prejudice exists.

Hell, even in this thread, Pakistanis and Indians have a go at the darker skinned folk. You would think education would curb these tendencies.

These same folks have no compunction then to scream islamophobia or racism by westerners.

Tan skin, brown skin, in my opinion, is very attractive. Why be ashamed of that beauty?
