Indian Navy holds joint drills with top naval powers
Anil K. Joseph

Tokyo/Beijing, April 16
The Indian Navy enhanced its global profile today holding its first ever joint naval exercises with the United States and Japan and separately with China.

As India, the US and Japan try to forge closer ties, their navies held joint naval drills in the Pacific Ocean.

Japan sent four escort vessels to the drill off Japan’s east coast, where two US destroyers and three Indian warships joined the exercise, a Japanese Defence Ministry spokesman said.

“The first naval drill between Japan, the United States and India is aimed at boosting the friendly relationship among the three countries as well as improving maritime technique,” the spokesman said.

The drill also envisages cooperation in the event of a major natural disaster such as a tsunami.

Japanese Premier Shinto Abe agreed to the naval exercises during a summit with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh in December.

Official sources said in Beijing that Indian naval ships conducted manouveres with the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy Northern Sea Fleet off the eastern coast of China. The exercises were part of efforts to enhance mutual trust and inter-operability and give further substance to the strategic and cooperative partnership between India and China.

The visit of the Indian ships — INS Rana and INS Ranjit — also builds on the momentum of exchanges between the Armed Forces of India and China. — PTI

I have a question...why is it that every single thing done by India is splashed up by the Indian media and then overly glamourized?...not sure why only India and Indians do this (as of late all the more so)...USN exercises with all the Navies around the world...its nothing unusual. :disagree: Why the selection of terms such as IN exercises with "Top"? Is this some sort of massive national insecurity that Indians are trying to get over? Seems like it to me.

Is that the only way you can interpret it, Isnt USN and Japan, top Naval Powers, Maybe you should post NEWS you think is relevent. Why does it have to be insecurity complex, why cant it can we are proud of whatever we are achieving. Maybe you should call it 'cocky'

The reason this particular 'item' was posted, since it shows an early sign of India-Japan-US teaming up together, which will oppose future PLAN expansion. All these three countries have beef with China.

What is the achievement here? Other countries also train and exercise with the same Navies yet you do not find silly newspaper headlines (which essentially blow sunshine up your own ***) like the one above. That was my sole point.

I have no problems with this article being posted, I was just commenting about the
heading...

For some reason I do not see others glamourizing every bit of rudimentary and routine business that Navies are involved in as does the Indian media.

For example, in not so distant past, there was another Naval exercise with much greater participation and scope than the USN-IN-JSDF/N exercise. I do not recall reading any titles even close to the grandiose statements that emanate from the Indian side. Its quite similar to the many, many exercises that are conducted by the Airforces of the world, yet the ones who trumpet them the most are the Indians...why is that? If its not insecurity then what is it? Sorry for digressing on this thread, but its something that I am trying to understand myself.

Sir,

Its called the 'India Rising Syndrome'. :D

We call it Pakistani's really jealous syndrome....lol
Lets us poor Indians enjoy our new found power and Money. We aint a complete begging bowl now, and we are god damn happy about that.
Anyways Blain, What else other than Top naval powers do you call USN JSDMF and PLAN, Russian Navy

I see a tri-lateral Coailition forming in here with due regards to China. US, India and Japan view China as a threat. I actually find this article quite interesting. Sheer amount of time IN and IAF is training is unbelievable. Shows IN's Deployment Potenital..

I have a question can you explain me why ISRO's mission is covered for a few minutes and Sunita Williams taking Samosa in ISS is covered all the day in media?

Why the overhyped kissing non-issue is made a issue while nothing good on scientific front os shown?

You need to understand which media you read which you shouldnt.

Indian media and a fair part of them barks on total BASELESS issues underminiing the issues that are of prior national interest other than politics.

Adux,

I can appreciate patriotism as its your right to be proud of India and her achievements.

I am not anti-India, but pro-Pakistan. I noticed something which I am sure others have too. Which is the over-glossing that goes on with anything India does. When people post articles that shed negative light on India, you guys team up and criticise and put down the author/source instead of the content which to me is indicative of an attitude that prefers to see only the hype and is hellbent on convincing everyone else that its true.

Pakistan is constantly receiving flak and we can at least acknowledge that there are problems a plenty...I just see that happening less and less amongst the Indians even though the problems in India are not any less.

Blain,The author/source should anticipate criticism when he mentions Sikkim as a different country! And the fact that he says India gave non functioning radar. He uses it as 'proof' when the SL govt has herself denied such reports. ROFL!
