This is inevitable when the religious center of people are outside their political center. It creates an offset in loyalties. This shift can then be widened (what we call brain washing) resulting in split loyalties.

The matter worsens when the "cultural" center is also outside their political center, so when people claim 'Arab' heritage and culture, you know which center they are talking about.

You must read the history of UK as to why the Monarchy created their own "Church of England" which was independent and free of Rome.

This is a well recognized part of human behavior.
