discrimination of any kind is a product of a lack of understanding, directly related to a lack of education. All third world countries, many of which are in transition still deal with issues of discrimination, in India it has to do with caste, but Pakistan has its own. With time, as greater awareness is reached through widespread education, these problems will be a thing of the past. India, in fact, with its constant focus on education may be best placed to combat such prejudices...but it requires all Indians to give the issue importance so that it can be raised and dealt with.

Some how i notice that the threads on Indian caste system, poverty and corruption suddenly spike up whenever there is a major drone attack or an incident like Abbotabad / Illiyas Kashmiri takes place.. Wonder why?? Is it just a coincidence or is there some degree of causation also involved??

Caste system was meant for a society that existed thousands of years ago in India . There have been such discriminations in other societies as well . Its just that others got over it , we have not yet , thanks to out economic situation and some cultural reasons as well . It was never meant to be followed in the 21 st century.

Thats because our elders insist on it. Just give it another generation you would see a difference. I might get married in the same caste because my parents insist on it. But I wouldn't care. See a change.

Although marrying in a same caste should not be considered discrimination rather it is being more communal which is also a problem but not to an extent that it is perceived to be.

I do not think one generation will do away with such caste system.

Indian has been independent for more than 60 years and boasts itself as the largest democratic country.

There are strict laws already . the problem is with the implementation . And yes only two generation have passed since indipendence , dont expect us to get rid of a milleniums old problems in just 2 generations

What is " Dharma" and " Karma" then? Hinduism is actually called 'Sanatana Dharma' which literally meaning 'Eternal duty' of the individual and all castes have different duties for example BRAHMINS( the scholars, Mullah, thinkers and teachers etc) , KSHATRIYAS (the fighter / soldier class), VAISHYA( the merchant, trader and businessmen class) ,SHUDRAS (these were the peasant and servant class whose duty was to serve peoples from upper class)

Since our indian brothers are too much busy in worrying about pakistani people and problems, so jana is trying that your people especially low cast ones do not remain unattended.

But reality is otherwise, even children show their hatred towards low cast people although they are not supposed to have brahm gyan, but still they are brahman, why?

What non sense. What has Obl or ilyas kashmiri has to do with your caste system? Was obl a brahman or ilyas kashmiri a low caste hindu? U r expert of derailing the thread.

So what is your point in posting these articles? Affirmative action is very effective in India. There are laws against discrimination and low caste people have reservations in education and employment. What else do you want India to do? Without any constructive criticism, I would have to take your point of posting these articles as a intention to score some brownie points.

Why there are kow caste people in first place? Why there is no equality between low caste and upper cast people? Dont you feel that it is against basic human rights?

Caste system in India is alive today as Government of India has specific quotas for Dalit/low caste(16% of total population) and backward Classes

Just a few months ago...... a "low caste" women was beaten and fined for feeding a high caste mans dog!

We should encourage Dalits to convert to Buddhism, The fundamental principles of Hinduism and Buddhism are identical, conversion will help in cleaning up Hinduism.
