lol how he would become rich if the society he is living in consider him low life inferior individual and his confidence will only develop when he will be treated equally by the society. My question was : Can dalit become Brahmin according to scriptures of Hinduism or he must have blood of Braham to label himself Brahmin?

Again no one is brahman when he is born. Only ignorants think that. Inferiority complex among low castes is just adding to it.

and you need money for good education

State education is free. There are reservations for them in every field.

I mean just like Muslims can do marriage with muslim of any caste, race, why not Hindu? I agree with you marrige is personal choice but there should not be a superior or inferior castes within Hindu religion because only this superiority and inferiority complex make it impossible for them to marry with Hindus of different castes

Again marrying in the same caste is a preference. For example I am a Naidu, my parents would never allow me to marry a Brahmin even though they are supposedly of higher caste. So there is no question of inferiority or superiority here. So please stop allegations based on little you know. It'll show your ignorant side.

Lot of Ignorance from Pakistani posters on this thread. I wonder why this thread is being entertained in World Affairs section, while other India specific threads are being deleted.

Dalit children recount horrific tales of discrimination

Aged between 8 and 14, these children tore Nitish Kumar’s Government to shreds when one after another they recounted their horrific tales.

One such student was 13-year-old Poonam Kumari from Gaya, who recalled how five youths from her village forced her to disrobe at a secluded place, and then took turns to rape her.

Tears continued to roll down her cheeks as she narrated her experience before a select gathering, which included SC/ST Welfare Minister in Bihar Jitan Ram Manjhi.

Her woes did not end there. She had to undergo a medical examination, and after her charges were found to be true, an FIR was lodged at the concerned police station. But since the culprits enjoy enormous clout, they continue to roam around freely and, at times, even pass lewd comments on Poonam whenever they come face to face with her.

But then Poonam was not alone. Fourteen-year-old Radha had come all the way from Barachatti, where she studies in Kasturba Gandhi Madhya Vidyalaya. One day she complained to her teacher about stomachache. But lo and behold, the teacher locked her up in the toilet for six hours.

The teacher said that since she was shamming, she needed to be taught a lesson. Radha would have remained locked up in the dingy and unhygienic bathroom had one of her class-mates not informed her father, who came rushing to the school and forced the teacher to let her go.

There were more stories of discrimination in store. Bina Kumari of Gaighat narrated in detail how the toilet in her school was out of bounds for the Dalit girls. “Only upper caste girls are allowed to make use of the toilet,” said Bina. “Besides, Dalit students are served their mid-day meals in leaf plates while upper caste students are provided food in proper plates by the Rajkiya Madhya Vidyalaya,” she added.

It’s not only the mid-day meal where the discrimination is rampant. The Dalit children face prejudices even if they apply for a school-leaving certificate. “Upper caste students have to pay just Rs 40 for a school-leaving certificate, while Dalit students like us are made to cough up Rs 100 for the same,” said Satnarian Paswan of Darbhanga.

The tales of bias come close on the heels of Nitish Kumar’s government announcing dwelling units and land for Mahadalits where they can build their dwelling units. Apart from this, the Government has also decided to organise a Transistor Mela, on the lines of Pustak Mela (book fair), Rojgar Mela (employment fair) and Loan Mela.

This fair will be held exclusively for the Mahadalits of the State, where companies manufacturing radios will distribute transistor sets to the identified beneficiaries belonging to the oppressed class, so that they can receive information about the various welfare schemes meant for them.

Conceding that the transistor sets have not reached the beneficiaries, Nitish said, “I admit that the transistor sets have not reached you as my officers are wary that the amount (given to Mahadalits for its purchase) would instead be spent on alcohol. So I have decided that henceforth Transistor Melas would be organised. In this fair, transistor set companies will distribute the sets to the identified beneficiaries after receiving coupons from them.”

“The coupons, of course, will be made available to the beneficiaries by the government, which, in turn, will pay the amount to the companies,” Nitish added. But for many beneficiaries these coupons have also proved to be elusive so far.

I am really glad that Indian media is bringing forward this evil. At least this way we may be embarrassed to do something about it.

I might be ignorant about different views exist within Hinduism. I wanted to clarify many things that's why i raised some questions to get better understanding of caste system within Hinduism. If you say scripture of Hinduism allow dalit or lower caste hindu to join upper class of Brahman then this is something which i never heard before. if peoples can transform from one caste to others then caste system should be abolished by now and hindus should not have any problems getting along with other castes because there are chances that dalit of today will be a brahman tomorrow

why your parent will never allow you to marry with another hindu share same religion? what are the differences between you and Brahmin which you guys cannot overcome? This preference of having marriage within same caste based on what? why caste is too much important in hindu religion? I mean we read this topic it seem one caste is not eating the food cooked by another caste which is strange for me. If you dont respect and honour peoples within your religion, how can you earn the respect from peoples of different religion

We are not denying the fact that in India caste based discrimination is prevalent, but things are change slowly but surely.

Meet India's first Dalit billionaire

At a conference organised by the Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries that aims to bring together Dalit entrepreneurs, there are many success stories.

Saraiya's story is one of them. However, despite being a great achievement, it doesn't reflect the larger Dalit reality.

According to the National Commission for Enterprises in the unorganized sector, 88 per cent of Dalits and Adivasis were spending less than Rs. 20 a day in 2007.

In their own words, the event is not about the past but the future and the aim of the Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries is just that - to provide a platform to Dalit entrepreneurs.

"Dalits are second to none as far as intelligence and entrepreneurship is concerned. We only have to give them an opportunity," says J J Irani, Director, Tata Sons.

"We have been trying to bring together Dalit businessmen since 2003. After 2005 we changed the name and formed the Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries," adds Milind Kamble, Chairman, DICCI.

Rajesh may be the first Dalit billionaire but given the success stories at this conference, there are bound to be many more 'Rajeshs' in the near future.

Put some effort and go through my previous posts, where I did acknowledge the problem and informed what is being done to eradicate this malaise.

you are born into your caste and that cannot change. the indians that are saying they were born as brahmins and became scheduled castes are lying.

They may say this in forums but in india society will not regard them as anything other than a brahmin or what ever their borth caste is.
