:( yeh and how will they get rich when they are discriminated in all fields ?

Nah the problem is the whole society specially in UP and Bihar is comparatively poorer and less literate, as compared to the rest of India. So they tend to do these sorta things. The Thakurs/Rajputs in UP are one group quite notorious for this castiesm (Phoolan Devi issue for example).

Its like chote log choti soch sorta thing.

It will take another generation or two for this discrimination to finish in these areas of UP and Bihar.

the reservations have not solved the issue of cast based discrimination. there had been inter-cast rivalries too over this issue because in open they cant get much while in reservation they dont want to lose the meager facilities given to them

You talk as if you have lived your entire life in India. Those meager facilities you are talking about includes reservation in IAS/IPS, govt jobs, higher education institutions and scholarships, all you have to do is work hard and you could be a boss of a High caste person or even have one as your servant. Now if you have any positive ideas then share with us, else ....

Where is Cast system in Cities??? Its only there in villages and among poor People and Iam sure with The rate Poverty level is declining In India and literacy level is increasing, Cast system will become a thing of Past (In my opinion it has already become History in major part of the country)

No wonder that either becoming a Communist or converting into a Muslim would gain much more human right and freedom than being a low caste Hindu.

My experiences with Indian Communists showed me that their words and actions don't necessarily match. They are vociferous against caste system, but marry off their children to the same caste.

Muslims don't have caste system, but they practice class system- Sunni/Shia, Family Background, Rich/Poor etc.

Its a millenium old problem . it will take india a few more decades to get rid of it . It has already reduced in urban india in a major way and in south and west india as well . Such things don't go away quicky. With economic development social issues too will be taken care of .form 1750-1947 , India did not see any economic development due to the brits .That is when the Developed world became what is today , before that we were all more or less the same . Now after losing out on 2 centuries of development dont expect us to turn things around only with a decade of rapid growth .Give us time . Countries like Pakistan and China should atleast understand such stuff , i can still understand if a Westerner doesnt.

Lucknow: Another shameful incident has brought the caste inequalities in an otherwise modern India to the fore. Parents rioted outside a school in Uttar Pradesh after discovering that the cook who prepared food for their children under the mid-day meal scheme was a Dalit.

The Government middle school in the newly created Ramabai Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh has 191 students, nearly half of them who belong to so-called upper castes refused to eat food cooked in school.

Shanti, the Dalit cook was hired by the school 3-4 days ago. When children found out she was a Dalit, they complained to their parents.

Furious parents came out to ensure the school does not forget the age-old caste divisions. Fearing trouble, the school principal fled from the spot.

"These children will go out to study in other schools like even if they get food there or not, but they will not study here," said Biru Dubey, an angry villager.

Villagers have even forced the district administration to toe their line and attacked the police jeeps with stones.

"We have not received many application forms that is why we are giving them 3 more days. If there are any more women who want to apply, they can send in their applications," said Govind Raju, District Magistrate, Ramabai Nagar.

In Uttar Pradesh, India's most populous state, Dalits comprise over 20% of the population and it's shameful that such an incident has occurred in a state ruled by a Dalit chief minister.

No Dalit cook for students in this UP school
