Indian HiCom's Car Attacked in Khulna

Yeah..the reason he told me to oust DGFI chief was Shahbagh issue. That guy was pure BAL, he backed Shahbagh. IKB was very disturbed with that guy and IKB himself decided to remove him and employ there a new guy. It as he told me was not on govt. instruction. Things are not going well there, it's assumable but what's actually happening is mystery. But he told me that now DGFI is not serving BAL interest because of IKB and this new guy.

I think, your version may be correct because the former DGFI Chief is from Khulna and his family is very close also to Sk. Selim. He was also instrumental in arresting either Tareque or BKZ, and the rumor spread at the time of his appointment that he was being awarded by the AL for that kind of deeds. One positive news from your post is DGFI under a new chief and the military under IKB are taking neutral stance in the domestic BD politics.

However, one question remains unanswered. It is about BKZ visiting Indian President. Was not she then a target? It means it was only a rumor.

Police have arrested two people for their suspected links to throwing home-made bombs at the car of Indian High Commissioner Pankaj Saran in Khulna last week.

Khulna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shahabuddin told reporters on Monday that the two were arrested in Doulatpur and Baitiparha in the city on Sunday night.

They are Mollah Ashrafuzzaman Babul, 36, and Rafiqul Islam, 22, and police said they were supporters of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Three bombs exploded within 20 metres of Saran’s car last Friday evening while he was having a meeting with Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry executives.

The High Commissioner was not in the car at the time of the explosion but three people including his driver were injured.

OC Shahabuddin said Babul was an accused in several cases over bomb explosions and vandalism.

He claimed Rafiqul, the son of Jamaat’s Khulna city 23 number ward unit chief Shamsuddoha, to be an activist of party’s student front Islami Chhatra Shibir.

Jamaat and Shibir let loose a wave of deadly violence across the country amid the trial of war criminals and mass movement for their capital punishment.

Police on Monday produced the duo before Khulna Metropolitan Magistrate Sheikh Abdul Ahad with a plea to remand them in their custody for seven days for interrogation.

The police officer said the court set Tuesday for a hearing.

Indian authorities said they were waiting for the results of the investigation into the incident.

They said they were not concerned over the security of their diplomats in Bangladesh.

High Commissioner Saran had observed in January that the maiden war crimes verdict delivered ‘some justice’ to the war victims through ‘a judicial and legal’ process.

Jamaat’s top leadership is standing trial on charges of abetting atrocities of Pakistani troops and also perpetrating rape, loot, genocide and forcible conversion during the 1971 war leading to the birth of Bangladesh.
