Pakistan and east Pak were in middle of civil war when Indians cowardly intervened and took the advantage of the situation, perhaps this is the only opportunity India can get to win any war.

India's victory in Kargil is all about perception.

To put it in utmost simple words, the outcome of a war shall always be defined by the victor, and India had all the rights and strengths to go offensive against Pakistan. For Indians against the neo-nuclear Pakistan, there was nothing to be lost, and everything to be gained, which in the end might have sorted out the Kashmir quagmire too.

So many in the Indian Army consider it a loss of great opportunity, owing to the 'cool headed' politicians.

For India, victory in Kargil was exactly the same as victory in Afghanistan for the US and Pakistan. In each case, the aggressor was successfully thwarted, but not without considerable direct loss on the defender's side.

To put it simply, why do you think America with all its might was not able win decisively against Afghan Taliban even after 10 years? Because, apart from the air might, you require foot solder to win war and it take some time to actually traverse as rugged terrain as the Himalayas are.

thats the point.. u always thought East Pakistan to be away and disconnected from the centre of power,which u always considered to be West Pakistan..Politicians of West Pakistan never considered that East Pakistan can be self sufficient and may have controlling power over West.Even ur statement is a reminiscent of that idea that East Pakistan could not be protected just because it was away from the West..People from the west didnt ever give East Pakistan the military capability to defend on its own...

u could not protect a territory 1000 miles away from the then West Pakistan in 1971.In 1999,Pakistan again proved to be an aggressor and took control of Indian territories.But again failed to hold that even though,this time the territory was attached to the national borders of Pakistan....so...ur excuse this time????
