An agitated group of Indians
met a senior official of the
Indian High Commission in
Male late night on Tuesday and
demanded that India take up
strongly with the Maldivian
government, the case of a
young Indian woman who was
raped by a gang on Sunday.
“Three persons forced their way
into her house and raped her
cruelly. She has 12 stitches and
has lost a lot of blood. She is
not even in a condition to be
shifted to Male,” said a member
of the India Club, which asked
the Indian officials to take
action.
The woman, said to be about 24
years, was working as a teacher
on the island of Dhangethi in
Alif Dhaal Atoll, which has just
over 1,000 people.
Like most Indians in the
Maldives, she was living in a
single-room accommodation.
The attack appeared
premeditated and carried out by
persons who have watched her
movements, said one official.

Indian gang-raped in Maldives; action sought - The Hindu: Mobile Edition

. . . .
Islamic fundamentalists have taken over Maldives. At least they are on island, which make it easy for India to contain them.

Strange, until very recently I had always heard that Maldives was a good vacation spot.

That's how fast things can change.

That's the problem. India fails to stop extremists in neighboring countries. Hell we can't control ours too.

Yes its quite strange . Indeed Maldives is known for its scenic beauty but recently Islamic fundamentals have taken over the island and in a way started dominating the minorities .
But i guess their time will come cause every action has an opposite reaction !!

They will soon be losing out their source of income and that is tourism.

Maldives do not allow to access their normal residential areas that much.

3 Maldivians and a Bangladeshi has arrested.

At present about 29000 Indians work there in which approximately 22,000 are in Male .
What is interesting to note is even a single Indian in that 29,000 figure has not opted for Maldivian citizenship

Feb. 12 (PTI): A 24-year-old Indian was brutally gang-raped at her home in the Maldives on Sunday night and is now in a "very serious condition", prompting India to take up the matter with the Maldivian government.
Minivan News quoted a source close to the victim as saying that she was in the intensive care unit but was "bleeding uncontrollably".
"We have put seven pints of blood into her but she is still bleeding. It is a very serious issue. We are planning to send her to India, there is not much more we are able to do here," the source was quoted.
A group of people had broken into her home on Sunday and allegedly raped her, Minivan News reported.
Azim Adam, the president of the council of Dhangethi island, where the woman works, said the teacher at a private computer school was in a "very serious condition" following the assault.
Dhangethi is the third largest populated island of Alif Dhaal Atoll, with a population of around 1,200.
A spokesperson for the Indian foreign ministry said the government had strongly taken up the matter with the Maldivian authorities.
He said officials from the Indian mission in Male had spoken to the Maldives' acting minister for gender and family, Mariyam Shakeela, seeking justice for the victim.
The Maldivians have assured India that the perpetrators of the crime will be brought to justice.
The spokesperson said two Indian officials, including a woman, from the mission have met the victim at the hospital.
Island council president Adam said: "They broke in (at her house) around 2.15am. I came to know about it at 4am and I instantly reported it to the police. The girl is now in the Atoll hospital in a very serious condition."
