The second comment is certainly interesting, what does it matter, it was just 1 Indian.???

The guy is implying that it was a disposable Indian.

@ topic, Feel sorry for the poor victim's family, it seems the Americans have created the "Friendly Fire" term for their own benefit and purpose.

what about those innocent Iranian scientists killed by Americans and Zionists? just for stalling Iran not having nukes? world's fed up with these junks of "regrets" and if the US don't send those killers to justice all these talks are cheap evil.

Those fisherman working for some UAE fishing company and that incident happened in international water so India can't do anything in that issue. RIP to poor souls.

US navy are not pirates and they cannot shoot anyone they want. Even in International waters perpetrators need be nailed down.

I smell sarcasm in that comment. The comment is most probably written by a leftist who are dead against Indo-US relations.

Usually US releases video of the engagements at high seas recorded by the onboard cameras. I am sure they have video for this engagement also.

BBC News - India presses US after navy kills fisherman off UAE

India says an investigation is under way into the killing of one of its fishermen by a US navy vessel off the United Arab Emirates (UAE) coast.

Foreign Minister SM Krishna described Monday's death as "unfortunate" and said the matter had been taken up with the United States.

The US embassy in Delhi said USNS Rappahannock fired after the vessel ignored warnings and came too close.

Three Indian fishermen were also wounded in the firing incident.

'Rapid approach'
The fishermen were in a small boat off the coast of Dubai, when the US navy ship fired on them on Monday.

The dead man was from the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, as are his wounded colleagues.

"Our embassy in Abu Dhabi is working with local authorities to carry out a full investigation into the circumstances leading to this unfortunate and tragic incident. The acting consul general is in Jebel Ali to provide all necessary assistance," the Indian foreign ministry said in a statement.

The US embassy in Delhi also issued a statement on Tuesday "to convey its condolences" to the families of the crew.

"The vessel disregarded non-lethal warnings and rapidly approached the US ship," the statement said, adding that the US was conducting its own investigation into the incident.

After "the vessel disregarded non-lethal warnings and rapidly approached the US ship", the security team on the Rappahannock fired rounds from a .50-calibre machine gun, fearing the boat was a threat, US defence officials said.

There were concerns of a repeat of the suicide attack 12 years ago on the destroyer USS Cole in which a small boat was used, they added.

Monday's incident follows the killing of two Indian fishermen in February off India's southern coast by Italian marines guarding an oil tanker. The marines said they mistook the fishermen for pirates.

Two Italian marines have been charged with murder and are on trial in India and the incident has caused a diplomatic row between the two countries.

Gotta remember the USS cole

After this the US navy is of course not going to allow unidentified and unresponsive boats near its ships, especially not a logistics ship that is probably carrying a bunch of highly explosive fuel.

A tragedy for sure though, but seeing a 50.cal shooting in the waters off your bow should be a universal sign to back off...

Not necessarily.

For some fisherman, when some fires a 50 cal, would he know which direction to move?

Got to remember the attack on Iraq. US attacks everyone by saying they have WMD's, the whole world should preemptively attack it without checking

away from the ship thats firing?
Not easy to steer under pressure
