Indian economy at slowest rate in a decade

offtopic : Brazil didn't grow at all I think from 2009-2011

The same excuse you hear in the west.... "making them lazy"...whenever it comes to helping the poor of a nation.
Instead of giving tax sops to the corporations which are making them lazy, They should get more efficent and stop asking for handouts from the taxpayer.

The problem in India is that the politicians want the poor to depend on sops. so that before every elections they announce a scheme and play votebank politics. If you really want to feed the hungry then open a community center in every village and feed them that will stop leakages.

Well west is right. In the excuse of helping poor if we keep on giving poor more sops and subsidies they will always remain poor.Key is to cut the taxes bring in more investment and create more jobs. That's the only way people could be lifted out of poverty. Not by giving subsidies.

Inflation is skyrocketing in India..... the rupee is going to crash unless GOI starts confiscating Indian household gold

Unnfortunately we are a "democracy".. Dont worry abt rupee crashing, Indian economy is resilient enough to overcome any challenge.

They also announce "sops" for big business in the run up to an election and promise then low taxes and less worker rights......i have no figures on tax evasion in india but am sure if they stopped the "leakage" it more then makes up for what they give to the poor.

Well west is right.

Not helping the needy and cutting there state help only really kicked it in the 80s and then led to the eventual increase in poverty after a short fall.

Makes total sense!......you have no money and you cant feed your family, so we will cut your subsidies and that should get you richer.

Key is to cut the taxes bring in more investment and create more jobs. That's the only way people could be lifted out of poverty.

More like cut indirect tax on the poor and increase corporation-business tax and use that money as soft loans for the poor to start a small business.

Not by giving subsidies.

Well the day pak-india stop giving subsidies-tax free holidays to big busniess then you can count me on stopping on helping the poor.

Nothing more than a lie.Speak with the facts.

Yes it does, giving more and more subsidies won't make any body richer. On the other hand creating jobs will do.Most of the subsidies given in India goes to waste.Such money should be used in more productive areas such a education and infra development.

What indirect tax??Most of the Federal Govt tax revenue comes form corporates.Indian farmers pay no taxes at all. Most of the Indirect taxes revenue comes from VAT and most of which is levied by State Govts. And they tax most to luxury products and thing Alcohol etc.Cutting Indirect tax won't he;p poor at all.

That's your problem. It sounds more like a excuse.

Excessive welfare/subsidies leads to a "crutch mentality".

Such as the "children of the soil" in Malaysia, or the dole classes in the UK, who effectively live on welfare payments, with no need to work.

The most damming example however, are the African nations that live on aid from the international community. Instead of becoming more productive, they have in fact become dependent on the aid.

The result is that their condition has only worsened. Imagine what would happen if the aid was taken away, they would starve to death in their millions.

"Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he can feed himself for a lifetime."

Wait a second, democracy is somehow a shield against any economic crashes? What about the great depression in the past and Greece, Spain financial crisis. Would you please enlighten me what features in a democracy can make a country immune to economic crash? Of course, if you give me a lifespan of like 10 years, any country would surely recover. But 2-5 year depression is still bad enough.
