That is true and not disputed. The only thing that is disputable is the TOT from Rafales deal. If you recall din't they redesign the wing for LCA and also upgraded the HAL facility.

The stuff India wanted was thrust vectoring which was offered by Russia so India did not want it any more. Super Cruise and Spectra technology is still on the cards so the price details are to be finalized.

SAAB was helping in the Turkish Fighter X program but the Turks wanted no more assistance hence Saab is now interested in the Indian LCA MK2. Unfortunately the French are not impressed with this.

Why are we even buying these 36 jets? So we will spending money on setting up infrastructure for these limited numbers. What a dumb move!

This is the right question and thus it is obvious there is no way only 36 Rafales are coming, simply no way. Many more are going to be inducted you can be certain of that. The IAF would not be able to sustain such a pitiful amount.

French can be impressed if this solutions was opted earlier

Since due to our negligence you know( third world beaurucracy) in drafting tender.
We also loose our chance to leverage Dassault after Eygptian order our chances are degraded even below.

Although there still hope for more rafale as we know are airforces fetish over foreign Maals.

I think this is political move.

Modi had to show something to French but then there is a "Make in India" initiative,so he broke the order in order to gain political mileage. If you haven't noticed the headlines have changed from "spending $30 billions " to "Saving a few billion and making the jets in India" and the " extraordinary pace at which decisions are being made ".

Bad move Modi.

36 are coming directly from France, talks are on with the French Govt and Dassualt for the production of more in India (under the Make in India ambit)- Modi and the DM have stated this previously. Let's wait and see this become evident.

Like I have said, there is no way 36 jets for an AF the size of the IAF is feasible- the IAF would rather not get anything than just 36.

If it was a political call and only 36 are coming Modi has just shot himself in the foot- a merger 36 and 0 built in India. There is more to come....

This Govt is no fool, something else is definitely cooking.:butcher:

It maybe, reverse psychology, just like before when he said "Rafales are too expensive".:close_tema:

Actually some thing was needed for face saving the France visit and 9 year long nonsense procurement process, that ended up like this token order.

Third world bureaucracy is the thing that requires rethinking not just in India but all across the developing nation. One has to think not on short term solutions but on long term.

If one starts to self believe that what is being produced by a fellow countryman is some what equal to foreign maal and it can be improved if we work together then there is nothing which can come in between becoming self reliant and a developed nation. Unfortunately this is not going change till our older generation is still controlling and their systems remain in tact. The thinking that why should we bring change? has to go.

Please don't be too disappointed if in the near future you find out that these 36 Rafales have been replaced by M2k's latest upgrades. They would bring IAF replacement of Mig-21 ahead of schedule. By the time LCA would also get the green light.
