Not good decision. What the use of only 36 refales in big airforce like India?? Atleast we should have 72 refale to counter big enemy. Refale could be a game changer if we have more than 70.

Those 36 FA will go to strategic command force and fulfill the responsibility of Nuclear strike...that is currently handled by mirage fighter.

wouldn't it of been easier to just license build the mirage 2000?? would of saved a decade in research and development.

This is actually a very good idea...India would have bought Whole mirage production line in the year 2003-4

In the same price and the same time frame we will get fifth generation fighter, then what is the use of getting 4.5 generation fighter...36 Rafale is enough..Invest those money to LCA MK2 and FGFA.

Who told you that g2g deals cannot be on ToT have you seen Saab offer to setup manufacture lines in ndia

Bang on . I was thinking the same. If you see this decision in long term perspective....its a smart move...strengthening not only IAF's capabilities but heading towards further self reliance by going with Tejas..! That's a smart move buddy. Wise decision.

Where's the exact quote? He has said before that Dassualt will be in talks with Indian companies to look at building more (beyond the 36) in India.


Janes gets this sort of thing wrong all the time- especially when it is using shoddy Indian journos.
