Saab Exhibits VSHORAD Missile System At DefExpo 2018

Swedish firm Saab is showcasing demonstrate its Very Short-Range Air Defence (VSHORAD) missile system RBS 70 NG at DefExpo 2018, held in Chennai, India this week.

The next generation ground-based air defence (GBAD) system provides a flexible and supremely effective, long-term answer to constantly evolving air defence requirements.

“We are really looking to forward to bringing the RBS 70 NG to India and Defexpo. It is a completely new system featuring state-of-the-art technology, with a Command Line of Sight guidance technology that is superior to competing fire-and-forget systems. I am sure the visitors at Defexpo will recognise this when visiting our stand for a demonstration,” says Jan Widerström, chairman and Managing Director, Saab India Technologies.

By utilising state-of-the-art components and technology, the RBS 70 NG is unaffected by countermeasures, heat sources and clutter, providing a highly versatile air defence system.

“A homing missile can always be jammed by decoys and flares. With our system, you have control of the missile while it is in the air. The clever parts are on the ground and don’t get destroyed with each firing, so the cost is lower over time. In situations like event protection the system gives you control at all times. If you fire a missile and discover the target is not the enemy, you can abort it,” says Dr Bo Almqvist, Director Strategic Business Project at Saab business area Dynamics.

Garuda 105

Garuda 105 is ultra-light gun system which utilizes the high end Soft Recoil Technology. This allows the weapon (gun) to be placed on light vehicles and nonstandard platforms, including aircraft and coastal and river patrol watercraft. This high tech system which was developed and manufactured in a record time of 08 months is a force multiplier for the forward forces and will prove to be a complete game changer in the realm of weapon system.

“While a normal 105 gun is 3200 kilos but we have built a gun that is 900 kilos and this can be mounted on a pick-up truck (Technology is called Hybrid Recoil)”

We have developed enough production capability that we can develop one artillery system every alternative day and if we do get orders we can enter into production within months times, said Baba Kalyani. He also informed that Bharat-52 is 30% Cheaper than any Imported artillery systems in its category.

Bharat-52 and Garuda-105 artillery systems weapons trails will be witnessed by Indian Army observers and Kalyani also informed that they are currently setting up 4 new manufacturing plants where Kalyani Strategic Systems plans to produce Artillery Systems, Armored Fighting vehicles, Precision weapons, Military vehicles and defence electronics.
