Indian Army to place order for 72,000 American assault rifles

Interesting. Sig in $1k is a good deal while AKs are expensive than i thought.
Infact, AK-203 has been quoted at $1100 and the exact version being offered to IA has been displayed in DefExpo 2020 which isn't exactly an AK-203 but a hybrid of AK-103 & 203 which sucks further

The Kamov Ka-226 chopper deal has also been stuck due to pricing issue but that is most likely to be cancelled since HAL's LUH has completed trails and is soon expected to receive orders from IAF, IA & IN

For Indian Army soldiers which are not on front line. In fact best solution is IWI Galil Ace. It's available in all three caliber you can easily get them and produce them in India and finally you can use AK magazine in GALICE ACE 7.62 X 39 version.

These idiots cant manufacture homegrown arms. Always have to go and purchase sum. What will you do in war time scenario when massive re armament might be needed? Beg this country and that? no indigenous capability. The only indigenous product these ppl Ever produced was Sati Dah ... where widows wud be burned along with their deceased husbands.

Dude that's a $1700 rifle. We'd rather go for Sig-716 to maintain commonality with frontline troops and the Sig only costed $1000

Than why the hell you want any other Rifle and just increase the orders of SIG and try to produce them in India. Choosing AK when you are getting SIG in 1000 $ price is stupid.

Look like SS2 V5 from Pindad lost the tender. This rifle is used when Indonesian soldiers won many military shooting games in ASEAN and Australia (AASAM) where we beat US/France/Australia for 8 consecutive times

All 360 frontline foot/mountain infantry battalions of IA will get 144,000 of SIG716 rifles and Negev N7for its riflemen.
Rest mech inf, rashriya rifles, support units in inf battalions, arty, officers will get AK-203,CAR816 carbines.
Para sf and special forces have seperate arms with SCAR coming and mk48.

SIG716 and negev being of same calibre will have ammo commonality.

DI sig716 is not suited for assault or close quarter COIN as much kalashnikov which troops know and trust.AKs very reliable for COIN and assault duties.SIG has better range, more accuracy and better round,as well as being better in mountains and deserts.
SIG 716Tread is much cheaper than other SIGs due to DI instead of gas piston, but you need good optics on them to make the best out of the guns.Buying magnification optics for all guns in million plus army is unaffordable.
Around 150,000 Sig 716 along with 20,000 negev n7 will be frontline arms for all 360 infantry battalion's riflemen with common 7.61x51 ammo.Rest can use AKs and new carbines.

Exactly why the AK deal is on hold. MoD formed some costing committee to come up with a fair price and if the JV between OFB & Kalashnikov doesn't meet that price, I'm sure the deal will be cancelled

Again, we want the 760k rifles to be manufactured in India with the material being supplied by local suppliers and create jobs which Sig has to agree. Secondly, it costs a ton to set up the manufacturing facility and formulate the entire supply chain along with ToT which are all included in the cost of $1k/rifle for the AK deal. We'd have to see the jump in price if we ever start negotiations with Sig
