Foreign Military on a visit does not meet Opposition leader as per protocol.

Foreign government and political leaders do.

It is up to the Bangladesh Govt to set up an informal tea for the IA Chief and permit a break in protocol so that he could meet Khaleda. No harm in having tea with a soldier's wife.

.
They should allow him to meet khaleda. Nothing wrong in meeting her, people from US govt meet LKA all the time.

Indian Army chief to gift old Howitzer guns to Bangladesh

New Delhi, June 16 (IANS) Forty years after he fought in the 1971 India-Pakistan war to liberate Bangladesh, Indian Army chief General V.K. Singh will be on a five-day visit to Dhaka beginning June 19 when he will gift three antique 3.7 Howitzers to that country’s army as mementoes.

General Singh, who fought in the war as a freshly commissioned second lieutenant in the Rajput Regiment, will also present all required equipment for setting up a computer lab for the Bangladeshi armed forces apart from a rock-climbing wall, both for training purposes.

The gestures are part of India’s and the army chief’s efforts to take forward the growing defence relations between the South Asian neighbours, officers in the army headquarters here said Thursday.

‘Bangladesh’s first artillery battery called the Mujeeb Battery was formed with 3.7 inch Howitzers. India too used these several decades ago. Since Bangladesh wanted some guns for its legacy value and for perpetuating the Mujeeb Battery’s memory and accomplishments, these guns are being gifted,’ the officers said.

Gen. Singh, during the visit, will meet top government leaders, senior armed forces officers and will also attend the passing-out parade of two batches of the Bangladesh Military Academy in Chittagong during this visit.

Army officials said here that Singh will fly to Dhaka June 19 at the invitation of his Bangladeshi counterpart Gen Mohammed Abdul Mubeen.
Gen. Singh, who will be accompanied by his wife Bharti Singh and five senior army officers, will call on President Mohammed Zillur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and also meet senior officers of the Bangladesh armed forces.

At Chittagong, he will be the chief guest at the passing-out parade of the 64th Long Course and the 35th Special Course of the Bangladesh Military Academy June 22. He will return to India June 23.

As India’s eastern army commander based in Kolkata prior to taking over as the cheif of teh Indian Army, General Singh made special efforts to expand the military-to-military ties between India and Bangladesh.

LOL i second that....all indo-bangla threads turn into mudslinging threads ....

OT- This is a good thing in improving our ties in the real life!!

Thanks for the computer lab and the rock climbing wall:)

"Nemo dat quod non habet" basically means you can't give/gift what you don't have, its actually a legal term. India hauled away the guns but never gained legal ownership. Therefore this latin term applies.

I would strongly oppose accepting computers/software from the Indians, you wouldn't know what kind of bug they are going to put in those boxes, its a major security breach. This is a classic Trojan !!!!! Lame attempt from the Indian chief.

You got to get up pretty early in the morning to pull this one off !!

@ Why India is very much fond of donating "Computer Lab", that too for the Bangladesh Armed Force ?? So that some of the Indian IT technicians basically RAW agent can infiltrate in our Armed Forces HQ.

@ Never trust the Indian !!! I remember, back 2004/5 once the Indian got contract for the repair of Chittagong-Dhaka High Ways many skill labour came from India. And among these labours many were ex-army. Many were seen lottering near the Comilla Cantonment areas.

@ Donating computer lab to any institution is now out dated. What we will do with this computer lab. We have allready many. These are all fake !!!!! The main aim to infiltrate inside restricted area so that some thing can be fixed some where inside and than follow it from New Delhi.

OK. Now that's some lethal weapon Bharat has given to BD. And that too free.

Run run, save yourself. There is a trojan in every piece of software. Considering Indians are churning our dozens of software suites, where will you hide.

How I wish you understood the sentiment value of a gun used in 1971 for the citizens of Bangladesh. Never mind...
