NEW DELHI: The Indian Army chief, General Bikram Singh, on Monday admitted the killing of 10 Pakistan Army soldiers as he levelled allegations of ceasefire violations on Pakistani troops.

“Let me assure you that action has been taken. I can invite the attention to the Geo TV report on December 23, which talked of their one officer and nine Jawans being killed with 12-13 being wounded. This has happened due to the firing of your soldiers on ground. They have done their bit,” he said addressing the annual Army Day press conference here.

In a warning to Pakistan, Gen Bikram Singh vowed to respond in equal measure if Pakistan broke any rules as he revealed that 10 Pakistani soldiers had been killed in a recent military action.

He rejected the perception that the Indian military had not retaliated against the beheading of its soldiers by Pakistani troops last year. Gen Singh said it was virtually a “mini war at the local level” whenever a ceasefire violation took place at the Line of Control (LoC).

“The soldiers are doing a stupendous job. The local units are doing a good job. The soldiers have reacted well and they have reacted well as required,” he asserted.

When referred to the alleged repeated ceasefire violations by Pakistan at the LoC, the Indian army chief said, “It depends, if rules are followed by our neighbours, we follow the rules. If rules are broken, obviously we cannot stick to the rules. Even we are going to break the rules.”

“We will pay Pakistan back in the same coin,” added the Indian Army chief. At the same time, he said that through retaliation, the “endeavour is not to escalate the situation into operational or strategic arena. It is to deal with the same measure if not more and give a befitting response in a professional manner at place where we are fired upon.”

To those who think that the Indian Army does not respond to provocation, this is proof enough that adequate counter measures are taken and a befitting response given to those who don't abide by the rules of the game.

These Pakistani Casualties he was referring to were probably in the Keran Sector where a group of 35 to 40 well-entrenched terrorists infiltrators supported by Pakistani troops had tried to occupy an area inside an abandoned village on the Indian side in the biggest infiltration bid across the Line of Control in Oct 2013.

There were reports that 10-15 terrorists were killed too, but this has not been confirmed.

can somebody find the news reports from Geo Tv????

Dec 2013 was the time that Geo TV announced it. The op happened in Oct 2013.

Why would one report it after delay of 2 months and how come Indian media didn't pick up that reporting done by Geo ? Meanwhile I am looking for report incase it may still exist on net.

Guys, the source is news.pk, which makes up such "admissions" every week or two. A month or so back they published a fake "admission" from VK Singh that India sponsors the Balochistan insurgency. That was a blatant lie, VKS said no such thing. They also made up fake wikileaks reports to make India look bad.

Indian army chief is not some tribal warlord who boasts of the number of kills or headcounts. Let's leave that to the jihadi types.

I wonder if someone could get hold of the GEO news report? That's what is referred to. So it can't be made up!

Army chief against dilutions, cites regional tensions

The Army is not in favour of withdrawing from the Kashmir Valley just yet as had been sought by Aam Aadmi Party leader Prashant Bhushan recently.

Army chief General Bikram Singh while addressing the customary annual press conference on Monday said the situation in the Valley needs to be analysed before taking any decision.

“We should wait and see how the situation goes. Jammu and Kashmir is our State, our country. The Army is playing its role as per the national strategy.” Also, the Army chief cautioned against tinkering with the Armed Forces Special Powers Act.

General Singh said the Army has “zero tolerance” policy towards human rights violations and the rule of law has been upheld in the Machchil fake encounter case in which two officers and four jawans have been found guilty and proceeded against.

As for the Pathribal case, he said, the matter was still under investigation and sub judice. He described these incidents as “aberrations”.

Ceasefire violations

On the ceasefire violations on the Pakistan border, the General said it would be incorrect to say that India has not reacted. “The intention is not to escalate; rather it is to give a professional response at the specific place.”

In this regard, the General said, India adheres by the Geneva Convention and believes in upholding human rights and dignity.

“But if rules are broken by them, we will also not hesitate to break them.”

He said the fact that India has responded adequately is borne by the fact that a Pakistani channel Geo TV reported how one officer and nine jawans had been killed. “These are your soldiers on the ground, they have done their bit. The soldiers have reacted well.”

Decapitation of Lance Naik Hemraj

General Singh also responded to the killing and decapitating of Lance Naik Hemraj saying it was a “highly condemnable barbaric act”. He, however, appealed to the media to be sensitive towards the feelings of the families of the soldiers before showing footage of their killings or dismembered bodies.

On why the issue has not been raised with Pakistan, the Army chief said it needs to be probed if it the act of desecrating the mortal remains of a martyr was the work of terrorists or if the Pakistan Army was also involved.

The General said the Director General of Military Operations level talks at Wagah border in Pakistan recently were a “move in the right direction”. They were aimed at ensuring that the ceasefire holds and the environment remains conducive to peace.

The General said to take the talks forward the meeting of the commanders from the two sides is also scheduled to be held soon but the dates are yet to be decided.

Following these talks, General Singh said the first violation of ceasefire took place on Monday morning in Jammu and Kashmir. “Three terrorists were seen coming in and whenever a terrorist is seen our forces respond. Today also there was controlled firing and small arms were used. We will probe the incident and both the DGMOs would discuss it.”

Afghan spillover

On the prospective spillover from Afghanistan following the withdrawal of the international force in June this year, General Singh said he was hopeful that the strengthening of the Afghan National Army would check this. However, he added, “there are already some signages of some spillover in Jammu and Kashmir.”

Gen Bikram Singh indeed said about tht report of Geo TV. Its been reported in Indian media as well (google it). No harm in admitting the action which has been taken in revenge of our soldiers being beheaded by some scumbags.

The army chief's statement was in response to Haffiz Sayeeds statement of turning Kashmir into a war zone again. The army chief reiterates that the IA is ready to take care of any situation.

Its time that Pakistani authorities put a lid on hafiz and his activities or the situation would get critical.

Even if a report of casualties exists, the army chief won't say things like ''This happened due to your firing of your soldiers.'' That 'quote' has 'fake' written all over it.

I did google, and found no such quotes from him. Could you provide a source please? Especially an Indian on, if there is?

I din't find any such news reported by Geo on 23 December 2013 . It's fake news  at least it's not available on their online portal.
