The prospect of private sector participation in defense has lead companies like Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) ,one of India's leading utility vehicle manufacturers, to come out with products like the 'Striker' combat vehicle, seen above. Note the FLAME launcher and Thermal Imaging Sight for the Milan ATGM on the universal machine gun mount. The launcher and sight weigh 34 kgs combined.

On a chilly November morning last year, an army Rakshak jeep crawled slowly along a side road near Sopore in J&K. The six Rashtriya Rifles jawans inside were on alert; in that area danger is always just around the corner. But when the attack came, there was little they could do; with a deafening blast, a scooter, parked by the roadside, blew up firing metal fragments into the side of the jeep. Had it been any other vehicle, lives would almost certainly have been lost. But all six soldiers emerged unscathed; they were lucky to be in an armoured Rakshak, one of just 200 that the army uses in J&K.

A-Tac-The-Anti-Terrorist-Golf-Cart_2.jpg

A-TAC stands for Anti-Terrorist Assault Cart and this cart lives up to its name, capable of withstanding a grenade assault from close range. The cart has a capacity of two security guards and is small enough to move about in close quarters be it in a crowded sports stadium or a hotel lobby.

This armored vehicle comes with bulletproof windows and body and includes four vantage points through which armed personnel can return fire on the assailants. The unit is also electrically powered. A full charge will offer six hours of use and top speed is 25km/h (15mph).

Can we keep this thread to Armour only ?

A pic of the French AMX 13, served the IA well.

The original French AMX-13 high velocity 75mm gun was derived from the German Panther's 75mm main gun.
