Dont get carried away by pseudo nationalistic jingoism. India can never be THE World Leader, THE Super Power. Dont be mistaken, India will be a power to be reckoned with, a powerful player in world affairs just like UK, France, Germany or even China. But neither India nor China can ever replace US or usurp the role US plays in present day world. And, ATM, there are very solid reasons why.

You talk about empires. But have you ever noticed that those empires which "rose and fell" were political empires, in the sense that empires expanded by acquiring/annexing foreign lands and spent huge resources in exercising control over those foreign lands. Any weak policies at the center of those empires ultimately led to loss of control over the acquired/annexed lands.

Contrast that scenario with what US does today. US does NOT spend any money on annexing or acquiring foreign lands to expand its "empire", nor does it spend huge amounts to maintain those lands. Whatever US spends is recouped by making other countries to share the burden or make them pay in kind - and actually allowing those countries to share the rewards as well. Actually a 'win-win' situation for both, adding the spark in the economies. US dominates by controlling the world economy. Who in India has the political guts (one has to consider the local electoral repercussions of initiating such politico-economic reforms) to actually turn the economic growth into a vision for dominating world's economy? Local politics is still stuck in 'roti, kapada and maakan' whirlpool.

india being biggest arms manufacturer & importer, india can flaunt its strength to countries & negotiate better terms in terms of business & geopolitics

Now even China wants to become India's friend after India flexed her muscle (Agni 5)

I never understand the concept of any rising economy when the big economies are slowing ???
If China has to rise its market can't slow down that means for growing Chinese economy USA and Europe economies must do good so they can accommodate Chinese produce. Just look at the recent recession. First it was USA's economy slowed it showed its effect on EU and lastly to China and India.
So growth is commutative. India/China can't rise when other world economies are rolling down. How the fu@k gona buy the produces, services and give investments ??? African countries ??? :D

All those are paths already well trodden. What new paths will India actually tread/create?

USA is decling by the day & china has a made a huge mistake by adopting one child policy there is lots of uncertainity about the future prospects of the current powers in the world, while that happens india will be a defacto super power with its massive human capital while the investments in education increase by leaps & bounds

India will be a hyper power for many reasons

1) worlds biggest democracy
2) sharp acumen of indian business men
3) growing military strength
4) booming IT industry
5) booming housing
6) poverty elevation second to none
7) growing diplomatic clout
8) growing exports
9) major technical advances
10) india recently joined the elite club of ICBM
11) pending application for UNSC veto
12) massive investments in infrastructure
13) huge breakthroughs in bio sciences
Most of these reasons apply for China as well, and since there can be only one hyper power ,it is unlikely that India will be one...

And you think its that easy to negotiate better terms and conditions by saber-rattling imported weapons? Think again.

the decline of major powers offer a immense oppurtunity to the country which is india to take over the space vacated by the other countries such e.g was in Iran

And you think its that easy to negotiate better terms and conditions by saber-rattling imported weapons? Think again.

technological breakthroughs such as agni5 & recent launch of spy sattelites are few reasons which will bring enemies of india to negotiate on its terms

Massive Hardcore Industrialization with Capital Goods Sector Growing at 20%+ for Atleast 2 Decades and Manufacturing Growing in Double Digits in Enough for India to Propel India Past the United States.

Also 1.4 Billion(Indian Population at It's Peak) * $40,000 = $64 Trillion is the Size till India can Continue to Grow before It Saturates. (Theroitically) (Assumptions Mostly Related to Availability of Resources)

True....u can have a begging bowl at best, point a gun to your own head and threaten that if u don't give us alms I'll blow myself and my neighbor up.

while you are true in your assesment but what you fail to notice is china is a aging nation much worse than japan, the young generation in india will create immense demand for better products which will lead to technical innovations internally & externally

china defacto has to negotiate with india on its terms given china is unliked by west & other major powers cuz of its communist rule

India is the only country who seek world attentions by creating hype about their imported missiles and ammo, God forbid if there is a small skirmish at borders of China and India, Indians will forget this "super power" word for decades.

recent downgrade in S&P ratings is a sign of jealousy by west for loosing the super power status to a country which got independence only few decades ago, its a sign of uneasiness of india's growing clout in the world stage,

Why do you keep posting such rubbish if you can't prove it???
And this war situation, had a dream about it did'ya??:cheesy::P
India and China have a 100 billion trade....that's half of your economy....
I doubt anybody would want to compromise that...

it goes to show india has arrived on the world stage as a very massive power & on its path to be a super power in a very short notice, having said that UNSC would have no value if india gets out of it
