Israel and India are discussing cooperating in the development of weapons systems. "Defense News" reports from New Delhi that one of the aspects of this trend is India's wish to procure and manufacture the Iron Dome system against short-range missiles.
During a visit to India last week, Ministry of Defense director general Udi Shani discussed with India's Defense Secretary Shashi Kant Sharma the progress of current defense projects by the two countries and plans for potential projects. "Defense News" said that Israeli diplomats in India and Israeli government officials and defense industry sources declined to comment on the report.
The discussions on the Iron Dome system focused on India's wish to procure it on a "buy and build" basis; in other words, to procure the Iron Dome and obtain a license from Israel to manufacture it. An Indian source said that Israel had agreed to sell the system to India, but was hesitant about selling to India the technology needed to manufacture it. The report did not say whether the US would agree to the proposed deal.
Current Israeli-Indian projects include development of a medium-range ballistic missile and development of a long-range ballistic missile at a combined cost of $2 billion. The two countries are also developing a ground-to-ground missile. India media reports say that this is a program of India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), but that, in practice, Israel is a partner through three companies: Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. (IAI) (TASE: ARSP.B1), its subsidiary Elta Sytems Ltd., and Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd., according to sources quoted by "Defense News". Shani and Sharma discussed extending the range of this missile from 1,000 kilometers to 3,000 kilometers.
The list of future projects discussed included a plan to develop aircraft-launched micro-satellites, and plans to develop laser-guided missiles and munitions. According to an Israeli defense source, other possible plans include specialized radar systems, such as an airborne system for Indian-made light combat planes, and a long-range system for tracking ballistic missiles. At this stage, it is not known whether the parties reached a final agreement during Shani's visit about which projects will go ahead.
Shani and Sharma also discusses delays in the joint project to develop a long-range naval missile to protect India Navy ships from aerial attack. The $600 million project, begun in 2005, is still in the testing stage, even though it was supposed to be ready by mid-2012. IAI is the Israeli contractor in this project. The missile was tested in Israel in July. Sources said that the missile would probably be operational in mid-2014.

This is a propaganda piece.

Here are the gems ..

...what happened to Missile Technology Control Regime ?

:woot:

This serves to discredit Indian indigenous Missile defence system, setting it up so that in the future people can say ..its an Israeli system. You will not find too many international news agencies carrying report of 7 successful Indian BMD news. Google and try....(you will find lots of news on 'caste', toilet...etc)

second it serves to marketing Israel product to nations under threat from simple short range missiles.

MTCR affects only missiles with range more than 300km.

Even then MTCR is only a collective regime of a few countries, not a binding treaty that is internationally
ratified. Thats why US is free to export Tomahawk T-LAM to UK and Russia can allow 500-km range for
BrahMos Block-III.

You are correct. Forget about getting approval from the West. They are stuck on image and what they see. China understood that so it cleaned up and polished it image for tourists. We on the other hand are yet to do that. When INdia incorporated food handling rules for the Delhi commonwealth games, it could have made that a standard and spread it throughout the country, however it did not. We don;t give a f-k about the Ganges. Again, social finance could alleviate this problem.
So we dont need Western media to discredit India....we do it fine all by ourselves.

You got one thing right ...Chinese and the West care about appearances while Indians don't.

Which is why we revere Gandhi who used to wear only a loin coth (underwear) and go meet the king of England (who he reportedly said wears enough clothes for both of them).

Our Shankaracharya wears a simple dothi but the Pope wears a stunning multi layers dress with a pompous head gear, jeweled necklace and carries a staff of gold for his public appearances.

..for us character matter more than appearance, Substance more than show. This is deep rooted.

I recall you mentioning you are a christian or a Jew in a old thread ...... please don't take it personally.

Ramakrishna Paramahansa was once asked why he liked the dirty city of Varanasi (Banaras).....he said where you saw f!lth and poverty, he saw spiritual wealth. For him it was a Golden city. Its all a matter of perception.

I think they are talking of building radars which intercept those 3000Km range missiles rather than the missile itself ?

We will probably end up procuring David's sling in the guise of Iron Dome..

Im not referring to the cloth we wear but the lack of sewage treatment, water quality, food prep, etc....they all play a major role in our health. I agree with the other points but in this day and age and in the future, we also need to be aware of how other nations are transforming. Our character and state of mind will always be inherent but our physical quality of life can change for the better to uplift our standrad of living and so we can project a positive image of development to the world, so that we may continue to garner investments and investor confidence.

When I spoke about Indians being more inclined towards spiritual goals rather than materialistic goals, all you heard was 'Clothes'. When I spoke of substance, all you understood was importance of 'appearance' to attract people of similar thought by 'projecting a positive image'.

Indians in general have deep rooted yearning to look beyond the obvious, which is why we sometime go beyond logic and rational thought and indulge in Intuition based understanding. This is the end result of centuries of civilization that has made us see wealth and poverty, war and peace and all that goes into our collective memory.

This is expressed in various insignificant and unobtrusive ways like voting for politicians who dress simple, admiration for fakirs & babas etc..

The standard of living you are referring to is purely 'materialistic', what if there is a standard of living which is 'spiritual' in nature or standard of living for 'emotional well-being' ? What if there is a disconnect between the 'materialistic' and 'spiritual' standard of living ?

Maybe Indians indulge in seeking answers to 'what if or why' rather than 'how much'. All civilizations move in cycles so maybe in 'Kal yug' we will slowly regress back into 'how much' which you so desperately wish for.

...All this is off topic, so its better we end this particular discussion.

1) MTCR is informal partnership.

2) Israel and India both are non members, same goes to china.

3) U.S.A wants India to make commitment to MTCR, but Indian govt so far has not agreed to it on paper.

4) It is basically design for systems with nuclear warhead.

5) this doesn't goes to sub systems like radar or seekers or missile with conventional warhead.

Here is funny part:

Under new US and S. Korea agreement will allow the South to deploy missiles with a range of 800km, up from the current limit of 300km.

US lets S. Korea raise missile range to cover North

Iron Dome is inefficient for maneuverable targets, that kind'a makes it ineffective as a short range SAM system, still a formidable system.
