are u always like this ??? or is it bcoz new year is coming ??

@Contrarian @sancho AFAIK the plan is for both the MRTT and 2 follow-on PHALCONs deals to be signed in the current finical year.

We will see it, but the point is not only the time when the contract will be signed, but that these are cruicial capabilities for the defence of India and that it's silly to delay them. As good as these additional C130Js are, they are not even close to be that that important as additional A50 or EMB 145 AWACS would be.

Its way too late in the day to be ordering. This should have been done 5 years back with everything delivered by now.
That is the confusing part.
Why did/does MoD order 3 in the first go. If they have had IAF assess and evaluate the system and if they are satisfied, then why order piece meal with the defense of saying they want to 'see the system work'. And if they are not sure of the system and/or IAF eval, then why order it in the first place.

They should have ordered 5 AWACS in the first go itself.

All this waiting and reordering is nothing but a means of corruption and timidity of thought.
To give you some example - PAF had an equal if not more number of AWACS(before two destroyed by terrorists) despite being a smaller force with a much much smaller area to cover!

And Id take any MoD schedule with a bag of salt. Pray to the gods that IAF's most pressing needs - the MRTT and AWACS - are ordered this coming financial year. Everything else - Chinook, LUH, additional C-17, additional P-8, etc are secondary to these procurements.

I think it has to do with the veto right of DRDO that sometimes is reported (not sure if that is correct). The additional Phalcon AWACS procurement for example was delayed, most likely to evaluate the DRDO AWACS progress and even before the first DRDO AWACS is operational, we heared DRDO claims of developing a new AWACS, based on another platform more comparable to the A50 Phalcon, which shows that they mainly look at their own benefits, rather then the security of India.
True!
DRDO plays its part in over promising and under delivering. But MoD gets an equal blame. They are paid their salaries to be able to assess what DRDO can realistically deliver and plan the Nation's security with fall backs.

As of now, we have every piece of equipment but in small quantities not fit to fight wars.
Take anything - from arty shells to anti tank missiles to tankers to AWACS. We have everything but in so small quantities that it is guaranteed we would have to import on priority each of these in case of a war.

India has got some indigenous transport aircraft planning?

six are already there...along with some C-17s...and obviously we will include more in future

Too expensive to be affordable in large quantity even for IAF.
