India-U.S. Bilateral: Boeing To Shift F/A-18 Assembly Line If India Buys 200 Jets

we can go for this if US commits 2 squadrons of F22 for free than say goodbye to PAKFA Just joking:-):p:

We are already getting ready to be dependent on US. Take example of GE engines, as we stand today, two of our important projects are to be dependent on GE engines.
In any future major fighter acquisition, naval version has to be considered as well, be it Rafales or F18's.
Overdependence is a great sin when security of 1.2 billion people are at stake.Better to select EJ200 for AMCA if critical tech for F414 is denied. If somewhere in 2030s US declare embargo on us then all our Tejas and AMCA(also F/A-18) would be grounded.

Exactly.

Unfortunately India can't escape it. We can't match chinese build up with gun to gun. They have similar access to Russian tech as we do so we got no choice but to rely on western tech to get an advantage until we become self reliable. Which requires in house competition driven private public sector R&D.

But our decision makers in MOD would have thought of it while committing for GE.

200 jets? India will need to shell-out like between 30-40 billion USD.

With local facilities and local resources, the payout is just not the same as the resources that LM will employ in the states and thus may have potential savings for India. Plus, imagine all the man power that will be put to use and the income that will generate.

No please. No trusting USA on important fighters. They will ask us to sign these and that agreements. Plus we cannot tinker with F18 as we like.

That is probably the biggest concern, trust on USA. Along with integration of the Jets armaments, radar and communications systems with Indian/Russian systems.

problem is india needs to start creating companies/institutions from ground up. No amount of rules will change HAL ( or other public company), reason being culture is getting propagated from one generation of employees to another.

Should not bring in any existing govt mandarin or employee to run the show. Should instead start out as just holding equity but professionalizing management sections.
the child (HAL) is actually a fully grown irresponsible fcktard !!

So I am guessing, you have worked in the DPSU's and have good knowledge of it's workings, shortcomings, work culture, etc. ?

if india can"t afford it alone then take help from Pakistan on half basis 100 jets for PAF & 100 jets for IAF to replace old mirages of bothe countries and factory established at wagha border as a signature of friendship like south korea & north korea business hub at border of both countries.. it will make sense of friendship and opportunity for both countries to come close instead of going wars again and again and it will be best example of mutual business as india keep priority of business in any bilateral talks with Pakistan...
lol...hilarious :-)

my brother is working with HAL since last 10 years. I had a short stint with HAL also. So i do have first hand experience of the work culture or lack of it in HAL.

Attractive proposal, but Indian hands are too busy. Why don't you take all 200 birds with local production line at Kamra with that you would have 2 birds JF-17 as light MRCA and F-18 Superhornet as MRCA and Naval variant for export, plus you have better experience of better fighter plane experience than LCA and better Marketing Experience for export.

we should have bought Mirage 2000 and Mig 29 assembly lines when offered
either its M2K or Mig29-35 or F/A-18 super hornet going for them now is a big big waste

thing is there time is up as china has already been testing two types of 5th gen fighter jet prototypes

what we need is get owr manufacturing skills come into full steam by maas producing tejas and then switch over to AMCA there is no other way + going for super hornet know means making russia think again about indo russian defnce ties better take this offer with full US know how and utilise it by producing 6-8 squads of F/A-18 advanced super hornets , growlers and LCA aswell on the same manufacturing technology and assembally line and when we have perfected that art switch over to 5th gen who know tomorrow USA might make india partner for joint production of its 6th gen fighter

not now. when they were initially offered. in late 90s.

we have to jerk start owr manufacturing capability to get into the current era as owr manufacturing in state owned companies is still stuck in sixties and seventies we need to change that work culture and manufacturing techniques and for that we need USA and private partner ship in a big way sure it will mean certain death to most of owr indegenous platforms but to gain something you have to leave something

my advice is to rope in private industry to mass produce LCA MK1A + take this offer and produce 6 squads of land based F/A-18 advanced super hornet fighter with 2 squads of growlers and then utilize this manufacturing capability to mass produce LCA MK2 , AMCA and other foreign 5th-6th gen fighter platform

Keep it up, Stay in Dark.
