India 'too democratic' to overtake China as economic superpower

The bottom line is that there are different strokes for different people & situations.

I agree that India is ' too ' democratic.

We have swung to the other extreme of democracy. The Indian politicians & Political parties through their machinations have succeeded in subverting what is an excellent form of governance. For democracy to work a degree of maturity, self restraint and respect for the law is necessary.

This is missing.

don't use big words like governance if you don't understand the meaning or just because the word happens to be in vogue with your english masters. democracy is a form of government, not a modality of governance. every right thinking person knows there is no governance whatsoever in india. the real question is whether india has a functional democracy as its form of government, and the answer is no, of course not, not unless you drink from the holy ganges and get poisoned and get a high fever and start to hallucinate yourself into believing there is any merit into what india has as its political life.

That is exactly what he said genius. That its a form of governing people, a good one, which our politicians have managed to mess up.

Still we are a young democracy and we will mature in time. No need to get your panties or pigtails in a twist because of that.

the issue of governance is entirely separate from the issue of government - and india has no meaningful governance to begin with and cannot mess it up. india did mess up its chosen form of government because it was cooked up by a few anglo-saxon trained hindu lawyers whose slavish propensity to imitate their masters vastly outweighed any real, subtle understanding of the social conditions of india as a shyt-hole. in other words, technically india's founders didn't screw up what they took from their european colonial overlords - they never should have had anything to do with the latter in the first place if not for their servility and utter contempt for what india really stood for.

Whether or not India has a functional system of governance is for Indian to decide and they do every five years both at state & national level. Other are best advised to watch from the sidelines and mumble to themselves.

Lay off.

No dumbo - this is the form of governance, the only form of governance that is possible in India because of our diversity. But I cant expect a guy who goes on about rooted/rootless races to understand that.

As for our country being a shyt hole, China is as much a shyt hole as ours..only that ours is known because of free media while yours is heavily regulated and censored.

So heed my advice and dont allow your pigtails to get twisted at what is going on in India..that is for us to decide not for others to decide.

another thread with more hate eh monsieur iajj... people with hope like us will continue helping the world insteading of being pessismistic and moppy gentleman all the time. hatred bring nothing but grief, martin luther king's speech about hope is something you probably detest, we dont have to fight , we can achieve global prosperity without it. here is a excrept from his speech:
I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day, down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of "interposition" and "nullification" -- one day right there in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.

I have a dream today!

I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight; "and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together."2

This is our hope, and this is the faith that I go back to the South with.

With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith, we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.

"dude stop worrying about the world, look at canada, we not only have a great countrie but we also are one of the largest donors in the world. Peacekeeping is a concept we developed and look how great the results are in cyprus, east timor , regions of africa, golan heights, suez canal. While it may not be a perfect concept, our primeministre Pearson had a vision and he worked hard towards changing the world, Look how much a small nation can make a difference. Being pessimistic is bad for your health ,save your hate and work towards a peaceful world as much as you can. We can do the competing through the private sector in economics, technologies, healthcare and work towards improving our lives. I know this won't make sense to you since your a classic realist however neo classic liberalism is already dominating the world's insitutution and you realist unfortunately are still moping about it. Talking is easy but doing something right is alway difficile.

brother just to warn you, he has some extremist beliefs and considers himself a racial purist and can be very anti-semetic/personal when discussing topics. He has these grand theories of world purity and wiping all races that are deemed unpure so be on the lookout. Irrationality makes it hard to argue anything, don't bother getting yourself worked up , he will bring you down to his level, been there and done that today, makes no difference.

I normally do not react to silly remarks from upstarts..

Just because you are a Chinese who knows english it does not mean others do not. Pls remember Indians learnt english Centuries ago & are conversant with the language. Our constitution is also in english besides other languages.

stupid hindus: etymologically centuries ago the term of governance didn't even exist. post-war british political science turned this word into fashion just to distinguish it from the term and meaning of "government". just because the brits enslaved you and forced you to learn their tongue it doesn't mean they have taught you all the subtlety of it. please don't forget that you were taught english so that you could better take orders and commands from masters. your masters didn't teach you english to train you to be fine political thinkers - and indians today still aren't. and for a layman who probably just parroted a term some retarded indian journalists parroted from some retarded british journalists who parroted this term from an actual political person to mouth off in front of his intellectual betters is just comical.

now that is another reason indian political system is such a mess: crappy copycat political science and sloppy political journalism. so the more you mouth off, the more you talk your political system right into a mess. that we have to read these confused comments from indians shows a collective failure of your political and intellectual classes and media people

I ve seen him and his ridiculous views on rooted/rootless races. I mean how can anyone even have those ideas in 21st century is beyond me.

Stupid chin...communism was not created by a chini...as everything else it was created by another 'rootless' anglo-saxon and then copied by chinese.

of course i like X more, but MLK took substantive political positions that you mixed blood people won't dare to take. even indians, despite their lowly political intelligence, can take a substantive political position when the situation calls for it: war with china, many wars with pakistan, many domestic suppressions of enemies of the rulers or of the state. these positions were often unwise, but indians knew they were making enemies in taking these positions and the indians chose to make enemies anyway. that is why despite their political infancy i still respect indians much more than i do a quarter pakistani. if indians are political infants, your biology makes you a mere ghost of a bitter, grudging, aborted fetus. you coconut men are immaterial politically.

Calling India a democracy is an insult to true democracies. India is run by one family.

on the one hand you say India is a democracy and doesn't have a powerful authority over its people then you say we are ruled by one family. if we are then why their authority is so sloppy?

The Chinese people don't understand democracy. They were never meant to. It is the only civilization that I know of which was had an almost uninterrupted system of being rule - either by Emperors or by the Japanese or by the Communist Party. India on the other hand has a long history of standing up to authority for the rights of the individual - the Marathas against the Mughals, the Sikhs / revolutionaries of 1857 against the British, Bose / Bhagat Singh / Congress against the British - the Chinese on the other hand are just happy being ruled. Indira tried to usurp power in 1977 - we all know how that turned out. The Chinese students stood up for democracy in 1989 in Tienanmen Square - we all know how that turned out. Can you imagine the Indian Govt. running tanks over its own citizens and Indian citizens not responding or just sitting there afraid of their Government?

Sure, China can develop faster because of 1 party rule - but that is because they have known nothing else since the birth of the civilization.

This title can come means Indian democracy model has failed, most of Westerners believe democracy is the only model but India showed a negative example.

Sure, China can develop faster because of 1 party rule - but that is because they have known nothing else since the birth of the civilization.

india has never given birth to political leaders of the stalin and mao type, who, despite their proclaimed adherence to communist orthodoxy, were too dignified (or megalomaniac) to allow political teachings of others to get in the way of shaping their countries by their sheer steely will. so india knew nothing other than anglosaxon parliamentary democracy since the brits permittted india to be a nation a bare sixty years ago and only after they thoroughly indoctrinated every single potential political leader from the colony - except when indira decidedly indian democracy must only ever work for her and never be allowed to work against her and stole a page from western jurisprudence and suspended all laws in the name of defending law and order (and her own rule). how uncreative the entire political class in india is - i guess the lack of creativity comes with the creation of their nation at colonial hands.

i honestly don't blame indians for their politicla ineptness. as i said, the brits forced them to adopt their tongue to be better slaves and to better take orders and never meant to groom indians as political thinkers, and the lack of elementary political sense (to the point of confusing the meaning of government and governance in their politicla journalism and political thinking) just shows the slaveowners ever wanted to chain the slaves to a state of political infancy. and even speaking as an enemy, i wish indians break this infantile mentality and learn and grow, and maybe one day indians would be politically savvy enough to recognize it is not a politically sound move to mess with a militarily, economically and intellectually superior china
